Hello!!

Yesterday's condo (vet visit): viewtopic.php?f=9&t=123917

Thank you very much Sienne, Elise, Liz, Julie and Sandy for your insight and suggestions last night! I really appreciate it. I will keep an eye on Billie through the weekend. We'll be back at the vet if things don't resolve, and I will investigate pancreatitis and heartworm. I totally didn't think of heartworm but the symptoms do fit that too. I wonder if the vet was looking for that in the chest x-ray. She's supposed to call me today to follow up.

Today, Billie "coughed" twice, but they were individual coughs and not fits. No drooling or foaming. Her appetite wasn't spectacular earlier, but she did a decent amount of grazing.

Her numbers are a little odd today, but it looks like maybe she was heading up for a bounce right at the end of the last cycle/beginning of the cycle, then came down a bit. I certainly wouldn't mind a blue PS number!

I hope everyone is having a nice Friday. Vines to all the cats and beans needing vines.

Re: 8/22 Billie AMPS 190 +2 261 +5 180

I didnt even realize that cats were susceptible for Heartworms till the vet asked if i wanted them tested. I guess it isnt routinely done but NW AR is seeing an increase in cases of kittys with Heartworms so they are starting to test them more now. From what you are describing the sx are very similar to what Charlie was doing before she was diagnosed.

Thanks Sandy! That's good to know. How was Charlie treated? I did some googling and it sounds like heartworm is a tricky thing to treat. I hope she is okay!

Re: 8/22 Billie AMPS 190 +2 261 +5 180

She didn't want her dinner nailbite_smile She licked at it, then walked away. I added parmesan cheese, and she licked at it some more, but only had a few bites. I am going to make some boiled chicken, because she loves that and always goes for it. I'm definitely worried now. She is a grazer but she loves food and it's odd of her to hardly eat any dinner after not eating since +5. She ate an acceptable amount of food earlier, but less than usual.

I'm also concerned about these high numbers. It looks like she needs an increase, but I know that she could be running high from whatever else is going on, and I don't want to increase when she's not eating.

Her vet is open on Saturdays which is nice, so I can bring her in tomorrow if I need to.

Update - she ate some boiled chicken and has been grazing at some Turducken too, so I feel a bit better about that. No hacking/coughing.

How about a dose increase? I don't like these numbers at all.

Re: 8/22 Billie PMPS 297 +5 246 dose increase?

Hopefully some others will weigh in as well, but to be honest, personally I would be a bit leary of doing a dose increase with Billie's appy being off right now, especially since she did hit the low 50s on this dose a few days ago. Ultimately, there is a good chance that she may need a bit more juice; I'm just not completely sure right now is the right time for it - you don't want her dropping fast and not be willing to eat. I'd keep a close eye on things, play it by ear through the weekend, and keep the folks here updated for evaluation....

Re: 8/22 Billie PMPS 297 +5 246 dose increase?

Deanna, I don't have any dosing advice just wanted to say I am sorry to hear Billie had to go to the ER vet - that is scary! I have asthma and about once a year my pulmonary specialist makes me get a chest xray too, FWIW. Glad to hear she doesnt' have asthma, but this is concerning that her appetite is off and it does sound like she is nauseated if she is sniffing, licking the lips and walking away, not a good sign. Did they give you more cerenia?

Re: 8/22 Billie PMPS 297 +5 246 dose increase?

i agree with amy, especially because her appy is off. Her numbers aren't terrible, although not where you'd like them to be.

does she have any history of ketones?

Re: 8/22 Billie PMPS 297 +5 246 dose increase?

Thanks Amy, Ruth and Julie! What you're saying makes a lot of sense. I guess I was hopeful that her appy would be back to normal, but she's still off. She just ate only a couple bites of Turducken then walked away, so I put out more boiled chicken. She ate maybe an ounce pretty enthusiastically, but didn't finish all that I put out. I'm not sure what that means.

Billie has never had ketones, and I managed to get a test last night after stalking her in the litter box - negative. So, that's good. I'll be keeping an eye out for those. Also, all poos have been normal. No diarrhea.

The vet didn't give us Cerenia to take home - just the one shot. I will call to update her and see what she wants to do. I am definitely leaning toward testing for pancreatitis and heartworm. Her appy being off worries me.

Thank you again for your help and support!!
