Congratulations….besides the joy of knowing Benny is doing so well and must be feeling good, I can only imagine the relief and and new sense of freedom you must feel! You did a great job!

Congratulations! :):):):cat::cat::cat::cat::D:D:D:cat::cat::cat::cat:

Thank you, Carla!!! :) :) :)

Thanks, Jen! His pancreas has been rocking it, that's for sure. :D

Amy, I just took a walk at 7:30 a.m., +0.5, can hardly believe it. That's not the important part, but it sure does not hurt!
I am so glad to see this, so happy for you and Benny!!

:smuggrin::smuggrin::smuggrin::smuggrin::D:D:D:D

where's that damn tissue box

Kyle, Hendrick's OTJ trial really gave me hope that Benny could get there too. I don't know why, but it in particular really motivated me. I'm very glad that Hendrick is doing well and blazing the trail for all the OTJ kitties that come after him.

I could copy/paste the instructions for after a successful OTJ trial but it feels like tradition for Elise or Bhooma to post them. Wouldn't want to step on anyone's toes :)

You could have reposted them as what to do is in the original directions we hand out before starting a trial. It’s the initial instructions that only some of us can give out and that’s because sometimes it’s not time or we need to decide if a drop dose is needed.

Congrats on going OTJ. :otj::otj::otj::D:D:D

Once he/she is through the trial successfully, you enter a new phase. Your cat is still diabetic but has now become diet-controlled. Continue feeding low carb food in the manner successful for your kitty. If you decide to change his/her feeding schedule, let your meter be your guide to the best times to feed. Avoid medications with sugar in them and steroid medications unless they are medically essential. Continue testing blood glucose weekly for the first month and then monthly forever. It's a good idea to weigh him/her monthly. Weight should remain stable. If he/she seems "off" or sick, or is showing signs of diabetes (excessive drinking, eating, urinating, weight loss), test his/her blood glucose right away. Keep the teeth and gums clean and healthy; dental issues can bring a cat out of remission. If you see rising blood glucose numbers, it's time for a visit to the vet!

@Hendrick Cuddleclaw what did you do when Hendrick went OTJ entirely? Did you just stop testing cold turkey? It's been basically the center of our lives for five months, not sure I can just quit right off!
Catherine look at Elise's post #10 above she gave you the instructions there
I'm neurotic so I still test Tyler more often than I should :p I actually think he likes it :p
I just can't resist sometimes :p
@Ben&Squirrel

yes we just followed the instructions and went to weekly testing than monthly

You are INTREPID to be able to just jump off the cliff. It took me three months to shoot under 100 and I'm not going to be able to take the training wheels off that fast I don't think. :D

Yes, I got Elise's instructions, I was more thinking about the neurotic view. :D I don't take to change all that well, ha ha.

It's like trying to quit smoking :p

I think I'm going to still be testing him a little bit and coming back here. I'm scared of just falling off the face of the earth.
