Jasper begins his OTJ trial today! :-D I was a bit anxious doing his am test today, but he gave me a nice number to confirm he is ready to get on with this.
When we started home testing last month we hoped but never really expected we would get to this point at all, and I am thrilled it has come so quickly for him. We have gone from worrying about high numbers and trying to get him regulated, to worrying about hypo and staying awake. Now I hope he has successful trial, and I will start easing off testing. However this trial goes, this is a good time to thank everyone here who has given us advice, handholding, and kind words along this journey.

What a great surprise to come back to!!! An OTJ trial for Jasper. I looked back several days and don't see that anyone gave you the instructions so here they are:

  • Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).
  • If he is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If he is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then his pancreas is working!
  • If he stays in normal numbers, after 14 days, we have a party!!!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give him the support he needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Good luck!!!
