So he was 318 at 1am (+7) and dropped to 178 at 6am. I tested for ketones last night and I think he was in between negative and trace. The color looked more peach than beige/nude (I sound like a lipstick tube).
I realized I did not give him his B-12 shot on Monday so i gave it to him this am around 6:30. We'll see how he is when I get home...

Re: 8/21: Cedric amps 178

I finally got my first pee test for ketones and mine came up "lipstick" peach as well. I guessed the same - between negative and trace.

Hoping Cedric keeps on splashin' in the water today!

Re: 8/21: Cedric amps 178

Cedric started almost exactly where he was yesterday, just like Lucian this morning.

Not knowing a lot about ketones, but isn't there something you can do to bring it down as long as it's not more than trace? Isn't giving fluids one of them? Of course most of us don't have that ability. But from what I remember, as long as it isn't quite up to trace, you're ok, but need to test as often as possible?

Because of Cedric's past health issues, maybe you can shed some light on it for us? Sure would be helpful if there's anything you could add.

As unbelievably high as Lucian has been and we're talking 700+ when he came home from the vet, he has always been negative, I am so blessed with that. Early on when he stayed high, I tested ketones every time I could catch him in the LB. 2-3 times a day. Now about once a week, but if he spikes, like he did to 400 the other day, I tested then too. I just rarely remember to write it down. :o

Knowing I have zero funds for the vet, would be nice to know what I could do, should he show trace. Something that would help.

I never had a ketone problem before, but I never started testing him before this past spring either. He was on insulin for about a month back in 2011, but the pancreatitis attack he had last summer probably did some work to his organs to put him back on the insulin this past February. I do have a bag of fluids to give him sub-q, but I am not very good at it. It does help though. While I bought it and the stuff that goes with it from the vet, it wasn't that expensive (Maybe $15 total?) but others on this board who probably do this more often know ways of getting it cheaper.

One day when I tried to put the big a$$ needle for the sub-q into Cedric (it's 18g), he just wouldn't have any of it. I gave him some water by mouth...slow and patient. It helped some.

Must have been someone else maybe. I thought you had Cedric in with ketowhatchacallit.

An 18G no wonder he wasn't happy. I wouldn't have been either! :o

Much better numbers Cedric. :thumbup
