Good morning all.

Calley is very dehydrated. Do I start mixing her food with water again? Why is she still so hungry and unkempt? I know she isn't regulated....but when will she be? This throwing up daily and being voraciously hungry and so forth can't be good for her. I hate to see her in such pain.
 
There is no magic time table for a cat to become regulated. Some regulate and even come off insulin in a couple weeks, some it takes months or even years if ever to regulate.

Yes you can add water to her food again but go slow just a little bit at a time like a tablespoon or so to a half a can. But if she's severally dehydrated she may need to be given sub-q fluids.

It still sounds like she has more going on than simple diabetes and I still suspect pancreatitus based on all the vomiting or IBD. When the vet ran bloodwork do you know if he ran a specific test for pancreatitus? Its not going to show up on a regular CBC.

How much grooming would you be doing if you were vomiting several times a day with say the flu? Well just because she's a cat doesn't make it any different. She's sick her appearance is the last thing on her mind. And if she's only keeping some food down of course she's starving. You'd be hungry too.

Kristin, have you tried any of the things people have mentioned for helping nausea? All that vomiting is likely contributing to her dehydration. I left this link for you earlier, and I strongly encourage you to read the various pieces of information on it: http://www.felinecrf.org/nausea_vomitin ... h_acid.htm I know Calley hasn't been dx'd with kidney disease, but that site has a ton of useful info for all people with kitties.

I know how frustrating it all is, trust me, and how overwhelming. Calley is undoubtedly frustrated, too. Anything you can to to help calm her tummy will be a big relief to her.
 
The bloodwork didn't show any problems besides the diabetes. I agree that there is probably more going on with her, however I can not afford to do more testing so I either need to treat her with the idea that there is kidney or pancreatic going on and just have her exist in state she is in or I need to end her misery. I wish I could do more for her but I can't. I am already taking money that I need for my children to pay for all the stuff I am buying for Calley.

I hate that she is vomiting and starving and not wanting to care for herself. I can go on giving insulin and giving her shots and doing the pricking of her ears....but if there is not going to be any improvements.....It just prolongs things.

I gave her stuff for her hairball/retching last night. Both the jelly on her nose and a Pepcid. She was so hungry she ate it on her own. :shock:
 
Kidney problems would show in a standard blood panel but p-titis won't. But there is an Indexx test called fPL that will either rule it out or confirm.

Then her kidney's must be fine. The bloodwork only showed the diabetes and something to do with EOS value(I think that is what it is)....that was just slightly higher than normal. The vet said it was nothing to worry about and dismissed it.
