Rocket & his Mom

Member Since 2010
hi all,
prayers being sent for Jan still.... and for Garland and for all the kitties that are struggling....sorry if i can't name them all...i pray for you regardless....

Rocket went to the vet yesterday....he was feisty and got quite the workout and he gave them a workout too...that said...i was told he moved a bit while they were drawing blood so he is pretty bruised on the back legs (where they take the blood out)....his hind legs are weak...and overall he is weak himself....

i bring the food to him and he does not go to it....he looks tired and on the way home from the vet yesterday he was not impressed...usually he lets me pet him as he tries to sleep on the passenger seat....other times he goes to the back seat and sleeps off the excitement....but yesterday he was cranky and not impressed with this bean as he sat on the front passenger seat he kept hissing at me....and when we got home and i had to take the bandages off he was oh so cranky....quite the attitude...

today i got a call from the vet...urine culture shows negative for infection but soon after he finished the baytril (last Sunday) i noticed he was grooming/licking constantly and fighting me the fluid session....so she said to avoid it being indeed an infection they can't find per se...he is being put back on the baytril  which is the ab that makes him not eat on his own while i'm at work...

dh can not pick me up at work to take me home at lunch for me to syringe feed Rocket...as i know he will not eat all day while i'm not here...so i will have to make alternative arrangements...

this is stressing me out as i foresee what is coming on Monday....

bloodwork results should be in on Monday or Tuesday....

for now...come tomorrow morning we start the Baytril again...

he looks pretty tired....if i don't bring the food to him he doesn't really go to it....i have sent dh to buy more syringes so i can pre-fill them for when i come home at lunch from work and so i can syringe feed him....

at the clinic one of the vet techs that had seen him 2 weeks prior did mention to the vet (not his reg vet) that he was his feisty cranky old self...so that was good news in itself....

we got home from the clinic and he went straight to eat then went to drink water....hopefully what's rest of the weekend he can relax and decompress from the vet visit....it looks like it took a lot out of him this time around....

so that's where we are now....starting the abs again...he will most likely have lack of appy and i'll be on overdrive for 2 weeks (not that i ever take any breaks ;-) )....

as always if you guys can keep us in yor thoughts and prayers....

it is mentally and physically draining...but he is still here with me and currently on the balcony....and giving me attitude the odd time....but worth every minute and second of it all....he is still here...with good QOL...and that's my main concern....

prayers going to all of you as well....Iorwen....i am still praying for your mom....Sienne....i'm still praying for your sister....and Barbara...i'm praying for your horse (the name escapes me at this moment)....

this is the latest....

Claudia I'm sorry to hear Rocket has to restart the baytril. But you don't want an infection getting ahold of him again if baytril is stopped too early it can just roar in and be bad. I can't remember why you can't just make sure he gets enough food all the other times so that you don't have to come home during the day. Sorry my memory some days is worse than a goldfish.

Ouch on the bruised leg. I'd be hissing up a cranky storm too. Glad he is feisty. Keep it up Rocket.

Sorry to read of the ongoing issues with infection and medicine. And very glad that Rocket is feisty and enjoying life. You are doing such an amazing job! We are sending heaps of good energy your way. :YMHUG:

Hi Claudia, sorry to hear Rocket had a bad time at the Vet and his poor leg, too! It's a good sign to hear he has attitude and is feisty though! I hope some other arrangements can be made for coming home to feed Rocket. Sending some vines and prayers for Rocket and you.

We're always thinking of you guys!!! So sorry to hear the baytril has returned, but yay - Rocket gave the techs a workout!!

he has been pretty reclusive all late afternoon (in the bedroom closet which he hadn't used since back in Jan when he was pretty sick)....so since i can not start the Baytril tonight (cause of conflict with the pred)...i have decided that rather than starting it up at 6:30 am tomorrow it will be 2 am!!!!

i will be very tired with such schedule....so keep me in your thoughts and prayers as we begin the next two weeks of abs.....

off to prep meds and try to get in a nap....

Claudia, I am worried that you are not going to be able to keep up that kind of schedule with getting up at 2 am and then going to work. Is there no other alternative time for the baytril? Do you have to give it in the AM? I can't remember if it is a 2x/day medicine. If it is, I totally understand why you would want to give it early so you can monitor him before work and make sure he eats but 2 am seems like it will really be a difficult time for you to get any rest at all. I will definitely be praying hard for you and Rocket (and of course sweet Comet and DH).

Dear Claudia, We are thinking positively for Rocket and for you, too. Do try to get enough rest. You need your strength as much as Rocket needs his. I hope that the infection doesn't return and that Rocket will feel much better soon so that he and you can "un-stress".

Many hugs from us,

Ella & Rusty

Keeping in you and Rocket in our prayers, Claudia.

You know, one thing I'd be concerned about is stopping and restarting the baytril. Ideally, the meds are continued until the recheck results are in. Stopping/starting an AB that close together can cause resistance....something you don't want with a good AB like baytril that works well for the urinary system.

Hoping he will eat better and paws crossed for good results on the tests.
