I picked a bad time to run out of Monoject syringes and move on to my supply of UltiCares. I had tried one of the UltiCares when I got my order of Monojects and Ulticares in from ADW, and didn't remember having a problem getting the dose correct with them, but now, after seeing Pumbaa's numbers today, I can tell he's not getting enough insulin, and I started using the Ulticares last night at the PM shot.

Introducing a new variable, like different syringes, just isn't good in the entire process. Especially not when Pumbaa was finally getting some good greens and blues, regularly.

I may have to pay for a rush order from ADW. :(

Dale, could be, but I'm kinda wary about the new syringes since I was having such a hard time with them.

Chippendale's told me how to use water and take a correct dose from the Monoject and put it down the barrel of the UltiCare and see where it lines up. I just did that, and now at least his dose will be correct again in the morning. I was undershooting Pumbaa, and it happened for three injections. *sigh*

Oh well, we'll just move forward from here! There are just so many variables that can mess things up, you know?

Any estimate as to how much you were underdosing? Just so we can maybe make some sense of the numbers?

UPDATE:

Well, I almost went to bed last night at +3 since I thought I had been underdosing Pumbaa for 3 injections, and figured there wasn't going to be any activity to watch for. But I couldn't do it...I knew I had to get a +6 just in case. So I turned on the TV and got some sleep on the sofa before taking a +5.75, and lo and behold, Pumbaa had dropped down to 85. At +7, he was up to 93 so I figured he actually had a normal nadir, and I finally went to bed at 2:30 am.

I'm so used to Pumbaa bouncing high then diving low, when he had those yellows all day yesterday I just assumed that I had been underdosing with the new syringes, but maybe, as MommaDale stated, it was just an extended yellow bounce. Maybe I was more accurate dosing than I thought I had been. In any case, this morning, I used magnifying glasses and based the dose on my experiment with the Monojects/UltiCares last night, and feel pretty confident this morning that his dose is a true skinny 2.50U.

I am tickled pink that Pumbaa didn't bounce high yesterday morning, then dive. And that he actually had nadirs for two cycles. Holy cow! Because he acted more like a normal cat, I thought there was a problem with his injections! How jaded am I?????? *LOL*

Could it be that his liver is actually getting used to seeing those green numbers now???

Suze <-- notice no extra "z's" needed this morning!

A lot of times especially when changing doses a flat yellow cycle will be a sign of action in the next cycle. But I have also have seen it happen with changing other variables like syringes, brands of food etc. That sometimes you will just get that flat yellow cycle or two and then suddenly their body catches on and they move down like they are suppose to....afterall they might be extra sweet but they are indeed still cats, with means that they will always be a mystery wrapped in an enigma...lol

Mel, so you're saying that Pumbaa is acting normal? Hahahahahahaha!!!!

I'll tell you, I much prefer the flat yellow during the day and a night with an actual nadir to the bouncing and diving that Pumbaa had been doing.

ps: It's so good to have you back!

Chippendale's: Yeah, you just want Pumbaa on the same dose as Max so that is another thing they have in common, like their all yellow mornings today! *LOL* I still swear that those two boys are communicating when you and I turn our backs. I mean, seriously, the similarities sometimes in their SS's is freaky! Chip must have just misunderstood Pumbaa last night when he said "dive" and Pumbaa went green and Chip went pink. Must have been the auto-correct going astray once again. Hahahahaha!

Thank you so much for explaining how to figure out the dose from type of syringe to another. That helped me a lot, as did digging out the "cheaters", which I didn't have to use with the Monojects.

We wish Pumbaa and Chip could share Maximilin's dose. Actually I'll bet all the lazy blue will earn Max a dose increase. ;-)

I knew all that yellow was Pumbaa's idea. Sure beats flat pink.

BTW I use 3x readers, a hand lens, and lotsa lotsa light for the resolution I'm looking for. Originally with the Relions and NPH I was just eyeballing it. I've come along way since then.
