Long-time advice seeker checking in...

Johnny has been hitting the yellows and mid-blues a lot over the last couple of weeks. He'll hit nice surfing numbers (sometimes) and then be yellow again at the next test. Or, he will do the opposite. All of this on a drop. Diet is the same and (2-3% carb). I know we're lucky to be where we are on the dosing scale, but I just wanted to let others take a look and see if we should be doing anything differently. Johnny seems to be feeling fine and is a smiley boy who loves to play (esp when surfing) and all Ps are in check.

I'm honestly not sure what to suggest. I do wonder if you upped the carbs a tiny bit if it might help to flatten things out. (I know. Been there. Done that.) Johnny is a conundrum.

Johnny has to do things his own way, doesn't he? ;-)

Are you still free feeding? Johnny is doing fine, but he might benefit from trying to feed differently, if you're able. If you get a +1 or +2 and he is already dropping, feed to see if that can keep him out of the 30s. Softening the drops might help soften the bounces too.

90 @ +3.
100 @ +3.5.
He's been eating a good amount at various times tonight.

Thanks for the bump, Celi! Sienne, thanks for your feedback too. We always knew Johnny was special, we just didn't know how special. ;)

We are still free-feeding. Brian is home during the day for another month. We are really hoping to get him ironed out by then. OTJ? Great! Straight dose that works? Great!

This is a good time to mention again that we are hoping to get Johnny regulated so he can have a dental. The vet wanted him "regulated." He's never had one and I realize this could also be a cause for needing the insulin again (chasing tail scenario). Johnny will turn 10 next week (or thereabouts, we just know it's early August...could be today). Should we push for that?

What kind of feeding schedule are you thinking about, Libby? Higher carb given only at meal times?

Re: 8/2 Johnny AMPS 172 PMPS 99 (seeking 'bouncy boy' advice

I was thinking that when Johnny drops, he drops early. Are you able to get a +1 in most cycles? If so, then I would feed at shot time. Then always get a +1 and if he is already dropping feed again and test at +2. You'll have to experiment to see if low carb will slow down the drop or if he'll need higher carb. If he's not dropping at +1 then it will probably be a surfing cycle and the feeding times will be less important.

A dental wouldn't hurt, especially if you think he needs one.

I think Libby is suggesting that you not free feed and instead, front load his cycle -- feed at pre-shot and +1 and +2 (and maybe +3 and +4). It may take some experimenting.

I don't get your vet. Gabby has had 3 dentals since she's been diagnosed.
