Ok after getting some sleep I can do an update. Didnt go to bed till 8am this morning and the DH kept a check on him. After getting some sleep and running out to pick up a few things, we gave him his shot. Now for the update. The hospital took an x-ray of him and found fecal matter in colon is probably what was palpated, possible cecal impaction causing vomiting. They gave him 1mg cerenia SQ, 1mg pepcid SQ, 50ml plasmalyte SQ, laxatone orally, 15ml of warm water enema. I have the xrays showing the impact in the colon. We also found out he has a valentine shaped heart that is slightly off to the side (she said it could be pushed over due to the impact). So we have to go get an ultrasound of that as soon as we can. She referred us to a vet that specializes in felines and the clinic is one of the best cardiologist in the state. So we will do that when we can. He his eating ok for now. Gave him some food at +6 this morning with some miralax on it. Has a good PS number and ate pretty good. His is isolated to our room again (bet poor baby feels like he is in jail....LOL). He is playful, loving and cleaning himself. If the vomiting come back tonight, we have to take him back in to get another cerenia shot (found out they dont have the pills at the emergency hospital). So we will go to his normal vet on Monday, get an x-ray, update him on what is going on, demand either cerenia or ondansetron for nausea.

So my question is, the vet mentioned pumpkin to give to him. I tried to give it to him but he turned his nose up to it (hence the miralx instead). How can I get him to eat the pumpkin.

Poor baby last night didnt want to go last night. He huddled up as far back as he could in the carrier. He didnt not want to be weighed or have temp taken (he struggled the whole time). I just hope we dont have to go back again tonight.

Re: 8/2 Doogle AMPS 278 Update

can you mix a little in his favorite food and sneak it past him? Maybe a fishy flavor will be stinky enough to mask it enough....although as we all know, our cats taste buds are a lot pickier than ours!!

just make sure the pumpkin doesn't have any added sugars that would raise his BG.

Might try adding just a tiny bit of pumpkin to a teaspoon of food...see if Doogle will go for it...if not, add a little more food and try again. If he does, add some more to another teaspoon of food

Good luck! Most cats seem to like it, but there's always exceptions to the rules

Re: 8/2 Doogle AMPS 278 Update

Well the can is 100% pumpkin and it has 4g of sugar made by Libby's. That is all I can find without it being the pie mix (which I know not to get). Is there something else to get instead?

Re: 8/2 Doogle AMPS 278 Update

as long as it's 100% pumpkin and has no "added" sugar (back to checking tiny print in ingredient lists again!), it should be fine. Pumpkin's calories are pretty much all due to sugar, but that's just the nature of the beast.

You only give about a teaspoon to a cat weighing 15lbs or less per day unless your vet specifically said to try to give more. If you've given the Miralax already today, it takes some time to work (but the more water you can get get into Doogle, the better it'll work)

If he won't eat pumpkin, see if you can find plain squash baby food. It's similar enough to pumpkin and will provide the fiber. Marje feeds it to her kitties and she swears they love the stuff.

Pumpkin has some naturally occurring suger. You just don't want to use pumpkin pie filling.

Re: 8/2 Doogle AMPS 278 Update

I use Beech-Nut Squash baby food (Stage 2) and pumpkin for Ripley. She gets the bf in the am and the pumpkin in the pm. I mix both with her food (she loves the bf on its own, but is a little hesitant about the pumpkin. Doesn't mind it at all when mixed in w/dinner).

Sending vines for a healthy Doogle!

Re: 8/2 Doogle AMPS 278 Update

I will go pick up some squash baby food tomorrow. I am going to try and hide it in his food tonight. It is the 100% pumpkin and not the pie filling. I dont even use that for pumpkin pies....LOL. He is a little high right now and not sure why. Could be just off after having to wait last night for his shot but still doing ok. Time will tell tonight since he got the shot around 4am for the anti nausea. Thanks for the suggestion!!!!!!!

Re: 8/2 Doogle AMPS 278+2 503+4 588 Update

Ok not sure why Doogle is continuing to go up after getting his shot unless its a really bad bounce or something. Was able to test him for ketones.....negative!!!! Just hope this passes soon.

Re: 8/2 Doogle AMPS 278+2 503+4 588 Update

True, at least he has no ketones. Since he isnt eating a whole lot in one sitting, I had to be sneaky and added the Miralax to some chicken broth from canned chicken (just enough to drink and add the stuff). At least he drank all of it! So making a list of food to buy tomorrow. Bought more regular food for him than me I think...

Re: 8/2 Doogle AMPS 278+2 503+4 588+7.5 HI

I am begining to think this isnt a bounce. He is now HI after 6 hours. I think the DH may have given a fur shot or it didnt go in properly. He still wont tent well and tends to shot towards the top of where he pulls the skin up. Plus he wants to try and get him back to his normal time and that is either 5 hours forward or 7 hours back. I would rather go back. He doesnt need anymore reductions per say. cat(2)_steam

If Doogle is this high, you could shoot early. I'm not sure when you'll see this. If you want, you could shoot an hour or a maybe even 2 hours (if his numbers are still reading HI) early.
