8/19: Another Reduction already! 9 days on .25u!

Tonight at PM +3.5 Lando hit 49 after days sitting pretty in 70s on his new dose at 9 days!
Changed his meal times up a tad since he hasn't been as hungry and set up the auto feeder to have an empty last slot. I double checked to make sure the strip had enough blood and the retest was 55, now at +15 mins after a snack 53. So I'm to understand that this is another reduction earned since he's 9 days into the .25u! I can hardly believe it! His preshots have come down by about 10 points as well.

He's been as playful as ever, happy, and completely normal. Peeing twice a day and have never seen him at the water bowl. I can rarely catch him to test for keytones.

It's a miracle! We're on the way to remission. I never thought it'd be in the cards for us but it clearly is a possibility now in my eyes. TR and Lantus made an immediate difference for us from the get-go. I'm flabbergasted!
 
+ 30 mins 67 :) another snack and test, then I'll set up the auto feeder and have the babe watch him/ test so I can head off to bed! He'll be over the NADIR by then I'm sure, and he can handle it himself lol. I'm the "oh sh*t" numbers expert, and he can wake me up if he drops lower but I think we're on a good come up.

Edit: +45 min is 71. Another snack, auto feeder, then bedtime... And I guess a new dose tomorrow of .10u to see how he does from there! :eek::eek::eek:

The snack at +8/+9 could help bring down preshots.
 
Hi preshots are within meter variance of green. :-) You work schedule doesn't allow you to get tests in the day on most days? Even a +2 before you head out the door?

Correct, I do testing/feeding at 5am and have to be at work at 6am, but I usually try to get those +2 to +3 shots on my days off! My days off vary but I'm usually off every 3 days or so (except this week) but next week I'll be on vacation so I can get lots of extra tests in!

That's good. I wonder whether the blues you are seeing are from him dropping low.

Btw, I must have asked this before but are you checking the syringes for zero errors before you use them? Push the plunger all the way in to see if it lines up with the printed zero line. A lot of syringes have their markings way off and that affects the accuracy of the dose. Especially with smaller doses every little bit matters.

If he is, I haven't been able to catch those lows during daytime hours, and I always test before bed and nadir and leave the autofeeder to carry him through the night... He usually sits really flat during the day, every time I get little checks in on my days off he's usually around 80s-100. He sits higher and flat during the daytime cycles and goes low at night with more drastic changes.

And yes! I use calipers as well and I check each and every syringe for accurate dosing :D

Today I got a +9.5ish check on him and he's 140! I'm assuming a bounce as well as him having a +8 snack when I got home. I'm giving the later snack time a shot, but before when we tried it he'd sit pretty high at shot time still so we'd decided to cut his snacks back to none after +6. I'm wanting to space his snacks out more anyways now with him at such a lower dose and his numbers sitting higher. I used to do them every hour and a half to make sure his blood sugar would stay good when I was at work and couldn't test, but now he's fairly stable compared to before and loading him up on food too frequently is gonna make him sit higher then I'd like.
 
@TankNRK I think you might want to try a drop dose for Lando. He's been in largely normal numbers on 0.10U for the last week. Looking at the 50s last night, I wonder if some of the blues are from him dropping below 50 and bouncing from there.

To measure a drop dose, push the plunger of the empty syringe in fully, keep it pressed and insert in the pen. Let go of the pressure on the plunger and it will draw a drop. When you insert the needle into Lando, push the plunger and count to ten if he will let you.

Hey Bhooma! I was actually thinking of testing a reduction after last night myself.

So the weird thing is, unfortunately I have realized I've been calling my doses technically undershot of what they really are, as I didn't realize it until we got to a half unit. I figured I'd just stick with how things are on my spreadsheet for consistency's sake. But I think our next drop dose would be a REAL technical .10u.

I've always considered the "fat doses" straight number as it made dosing a lot easier for me. So a "fat 1u" was 1u, and a little less than a "skinny 1u" was about .75. so right now currently even though my spreadsheet says .1, I'm technically giving him a dose that's a hair larger than the thickness of the 0 line (which I'd say is closer to .25u) Hope this makes sense :( I have been using calipers for consistency in dosing.

So while I am definitely open to giving him a drop dose tonight, we aren't really at needle juice yet. It's going to be closer to a real .10 units.

I also do want to mention that last night I opened a new pin! I was curious if that may have had something to do with him dropping so low.
 
I've been on vacation all this week as well and have been testing! But I did forget to jot down some of my tests I've done. But he hasn't dropped any lower than the 70s during the day from what I've caught.

I can definitely do that!

If we get to the point where we're doing needle juice Lando will be perfectly fine to let me leave the needle in him for 10 seconds. Whenever I inject them with insulin I usually leave the needle in there for a good five just to make sure all the insulin goes in :)

I was using the calipers to set myself up a dose, then lock them to consistently give the same dose each time. I had no idea that you multiplied the dose by the mm until you just said that and still don't really understand... I'd read through the files and watched videos explaining it but couldn't really understand... So I realized I've been giving slightly more insulin than what I've been listing in my spreadsheet, but only by a hair. I'm not quite to needle juice yet for our next reduction. Tonight I gave a slightly lower dose and I'm right at the "0" line so I marked an "*" on my spreadsheet and explained in my notes.

I'm sorry, I have Dyscalculia and have a hard time with numbers and mathematics so I tried to focus on consistency all this time. I thought I was measuring fairly accurately with my description up until we got to these teeny tiny doses :arghh:

I grab my "good syringe" I keep set off to the side, set it where I want my dose to be. Then I get the calipers and use the tiny hands on it to make a measurement between the end of the syringe and plunger (sorry I don't know the technical names) to get the distance between how far I pulled the plunger out. Then I lock the calipers in place so I can accurately measure every dose the same.
