AMPS 333..................had a good night, came down off the bounce and hit a great 97 at nadir. So hoping for a good day today. The sun is shinning and its a nice day here. Wish I could get one of those outdoor enclosures I have seen for cats. So I could let mine out in it and they can pretend they are outside.

Re: 8/18 Doogle PMPS 266

Well a little better at PM so could be a good night. I feel so bad for my outdoor strays that I take care of. Its pouring down rain and I have a covered outdoor feeder I bought (actually my second one, the racoons took the first one). One of my babies (the one with a big scar on his neck) is in the rain eating. I wish I could bring him in but he is to feral for other cats and I cannot even catch him to take him to the vet. When it pours like this I always think about all the outdoor animals and strays and how are they staying dry. I have to come up with some kind of house for them for the winter so they have a warm place to sleep. At least our winters dont get super cold but we have been known to have some cold ones with snow.

Looks like the big D is taking 1.5 days per bounce recently. Don't tell him you see a pattern or he might decide to change it. Then again, he could decide shorter bounces are the way to go. Paws crossed. I'm sure the outside kitties would like a house and the indoor kitties would like some outside time. You're a good bean.

Hello.
I don't think I have visited before.

I have an outdoor stray that found us that I had to create shelter for.
I live above 7500 ft so I think we get much colder but you have those damper winters that chill to the bone.
I have several things I do for my oudoor cat.
He has two hard plastic kitty heater pads . I got them by buying a K&H thermo-kitty heated outdoor camper but he's so big
that he didn't fit in them so I gave the camper things to the shelter and kept the heating pads. I like the pads because they
are designed for cats to not get too hot for them and its waterproof so if it gets a little moisture, he's not in danger.
On my back porch, I have a 4 shelf plastic cart ( the kind you would use at school for those overhead projectors) and I drape
blankets over it , something plastic on top for when it snows, and he gets on one of the middle shelves where the heater is.
He can go in and out thru the gap like a curtain from the blanket hanging over.
We get a lot of snow so this way he is up off the ground and has heat. He likes to be able to survey the outdoors.

We put a cat door on our garage so he can go in and out during the day and I lock him in at night. He's a big white cat and there
are coyotes all around. His food and water stay in the garage too since the raccoons would love to get his food.
He has an old plastic/vinyl covered bench out in our garage where his other heater is and he loves to lay on that. I also rigged
a fake tent because he'd decided he likes having blankets draped over, his own little cave.
I just leave his heaters plugged in all the time during the cold months.
Before he found us he was living in a drain culvert so he's very happy with his little home. And I got him to be cooperative
by the food. It took some time but he'now expects to be put to bed.
So maybe you can rig something similar for yours. I did find the kittycampers on ebay and got lucky on a lower price. They
aren't cheap in stores. I know you can find cat heating pads without beds attached just pay attention to the size. There are
a lot of small ones.

Re: 8/18 Doogle PMPS 266

I thought about getting the heating pads (I had found them before) but hadnt seen the campers. Dont know if he will get in it or not. I have found several places on the internet on how to make a shelter for ferals but having the skills to build something is beyond me (I work on computers not carpentry...LOL). I really wish I had a covered patio then I would just let him in there but I dont. For now I think I am going to take an old outdoor table and cover it with plastic and see if I can find a pallet or something for him to be off the ground. Weigh the plastic down so the wind wont blow it around. But thanks for all the suggestions!

Re: 8/18 Doogle PMPS 266

I don't have a covered patio either. We just have the narrow overhang but the wind tends to not blow the snow back on his shelf
too much. He's right up against our big glass door so I can peek out and say hi.
The table idea sounds good. I found all my "furniture" at thrift stores, garage sales.
Just the pads were expensive. Those campers have two entrance/exit holes. They seem to be designed more for barn cats.
My guy didn't like them which is why I gave them away since there are cats that like beds like that.

In the summer time, I put a pillow on a chair and put other chairs around it to create a false wall and he sat on his pillow under
our big patio umbrella. It kept the rain off and he felt special. It was his first winter that made me look around for ways
to get him off the ice and snow and let him hang out. As long as the food was near, he did.
