Good morning,

Jynx is hanging at a cool 108 at 7:45 a.m (+33 since last dose) this morning (with having eaten at 5am). Gonna hold and watch, with fingers crossed.

BTW, Jynx jumped up on the bed this morning, and onto my lap to get his BS taken! Guess he realizes it is time for breakfast after :)

Have a nice day. Hope everyone is doing well. I'll check in later.

Re: 8/17 Jynx AMBS 108

doesn't take them long to realize that the pokey has to get done before the food comes. kinda amazing, isn't it?!?

great start to the day for mr jynx!

Re: 8/17 Jynx AMBS 108, 91 (+36 since last dose)

Jynx's BG is 91 this afternoon :)

Quick question-How long does the storage shed stick around when insulin isn't given?

Also, at which point, IYO, would I give insulin again, if the # starts to rise?

Wow !

I don't know ow long it takes for a shed to drain - ECID.

In terms of numbers, I believe getting numbers over 120 would be your signal, however I'm not an expert on that. Hopefully others will chime in.

This is interesting. . .

Jynx is 64 this evening :)

He is giving me a difficult time eating the Evo now (guess he isn't famished anymore!), but is getting into other things (paper, etc., so I know that he is hungry). He ate about 3/4 oz. Evo 4 hrs ago. I'm nervous about increasing his carbs with the FF, but might not have a choice. I know that the FF Chunky Chx is low carb, but more than the 0% Evo. Maybe I should mix both.

Hope that everyone is doing well this evening :)

i don't know a lot about diet, but my gut reaction is that constant no carbs would be a questionable idea. perhaps someone knows more nutrition than me, but it just seems like it would be preferable to have some carbs and deal with the insulin than try to stay zero carbs in order to stay off of insulin.

am i misunderstanding what you're thinking? it is extremely important that he eat enough.

No. You aren't misunderstanding. I just didn't want to jolt his BS too much right now. I saw that many people on the site use Evo wet (Cat and Kitten-Turkey and Chicken) from Binky's list (and Dr. Lisa's recommendations), so decided to give it a try. He's actually getting more calories from wet, than from the dry he used to be on. He gets around 6 oz (14# cat), split up throughout the day. I understand how important it is for him to eat (and this hasn't been a problem in the past, he LOVES food). I'll try to mix Evo and FF and see how it goes. I'm also watching his weight for any changes.

How's your kitty doing?

If you're feeding the EVO 95%, it ranges between 2 - 6% carbs. I've attached a spreadsheet that has the values.

If Jynx's numbers bump up, before you reach for the syringe, try feeding a little bit. Then test 2 - 3 hours later. If Jynx's pancreas is kicking in, his numbers should drop all on their own -- kind of like what you saw at +2 today.

Thanks, Sienna. I didn't get the 95%. I have the Evo turkey and chicken (cat and kitten). It says it has under 7% carbs on the can, and the ss says that it has 4 carbs. A bit confusing, though. There is another listing on the ss for cat & kitten (Natura) with 8 carbs :?

Guess there isn't much of a carb difference with the FF after all (5% on the old binky list).

Thanks for the advice on the watching the #s. While OTJ, how often should I be checking Jynx's levels?

When a cat is on an OTJ trial, you want to test at your usual AMPS/PMPS times. Unless the test values are higher than expected, you only need to test x2/day.
