Just spoke with Willie's vet, and they got the results back from the urinalysis they ran on the sample I took in this morning (which, yay! got a sample!!). His specific gravity is at 1.030, from 1.025 in February. She's concerned that he's showing 10-15 RBCs per blah blah blah, whereas normal is 0-5. We've got an appt. for the C&S tomorrow at 5:15. Going to add on the tests recommended by Marjorie as well. She said that in the event that it showed no signs of infection, she'd recommend an u/s of the bladder and kidneys. We may even end up doing that anyway. If his kidneys are showing signs of slowdown, I figured it would be good to have an u/s now to know where we're at?

Once I have all the results, I'm going to talk to Dr. Lisa and see how she thinks we should proceed. As always, any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Thinking of you Christie! Hopefully it is nothing, but I agree it is better to know how the kidneys are. At least you will have a baseline if nothing else. Sending all kinds of good thoughts and healing vines to you.


P.S. Blah, blah, blah is part of what my vet told me last night! :lol:

Good luck with all - it is out of my experience realm, so I really can't help. Wishing Willie well, and a good vetty appt. I too think it might be a good idea - set a baseline if nothing else.

Willie??? DUDE????? They are gonna do a what??? That needle thinige is soooooooooooooooooo long. :shock: can I come and keep you company? I don't want you be be scared or nuthin.... uhhhhh.... do they hafta shave your belly for that other thingie? man we will need to go out for some serious micro-brews and sausage factory raiding... Hi Christie, good luck with the tests. I would do the same as you with all the tests. Maggie always gets the C&S when there is suspect of a UTI and every six months for her Senior check-up. Sending good vines for Willie and you. Great with consulting Dr. Lisa.

Another great cycle start for Willie. First dinner has been consumed, and now we're lounging on the sofa. He looks a bit sleepy, but is purring like a motor boat. With the losses of our friends today, he's getting some extra big hugs, much to his chagrin.

Actually that is very good that his USG increased from Feb!! I think an U/S is a good idea because pyelonephritis can be present without it showing on any tests. That happened to Gus; RBCs in his urine, no bacteria on the c&s, did an U/S and his kidneys showed pyelonephritis.....which can cause elevated kidney levels. Usually a course of baytril (4-6 weeks) helps.

Thanks for the info, Marjorie! Confirms what the vet was saying... there were certain kidney infections that wouldn't show up on bloodwork, but only on an u/s, and those would elevate kidney levels. Where she lacks knowledge in FD, she has been extremely helpful in dealing with the mystery that is Willie's kidneys! I am hopeful that is the case and that it isn't anything more serious... she too found it puzzling though that given that something is off, his BG#s continue to be so fantastic.

Apparently, someone's ears are burning... he just popped up on the couch to see what I'm saying about him... :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

I never did understand the intricacies or the implications of the urine and kidney values so I can't help you there. (There was so much going on with Stu and so suddenly that my head was spinning most of the time.) But it sounds as if your vet knows what she is doing. Anyway, Willie seems to be acting just fine. Great PMPS Willie!

Hope they unravel the mystery of Willie's problems..Moonie too has started to have some issues but I'm hoping it's just beginning--Hope both of them will be Fine!!
