HAPPY WEDNESDAY!!!

Today is my mother's 76th birthday - Happy Birthday to her!! :-D

Our vacation is over....we're loading up to head home. Check-out is 11am and feeding for the kitties is noon. Going to do a +3.5 test/feed and call it done.

**Constipation Question:

I'm not usually in the room when Hershey poops. Monday, Joseph pointed out that Hershey strained for several minutes before he was able to go. Should I start him on some Miralax?

Hi guys, and happy birthday to your mom! These sure are some impressive numbers, especially considering he's not even in his own home environment .. the pic you posted yesterday was gorgeous .. sigh .. what scenery! No advice on the miralax but I'm sure others will be along soon to advise .. have a safe trip back home!

Hey, Devon - Thanks for coming by and for the birthday wish to my mom! Yes, the scenery is gorgeous in the Boone area. We just got home and the kitties are busily checking to make sure that everything is just as they left it. :lol:

Hershey's BGs are inversely related to altitude? We give miralax to both Zener and Tillie the civie. 1/16t twice a day. We mix it with a little water then mix with the food. Cheap, effective and no apparent side effects. :-D Better to start low and increase gradually, if you get my drift. Welcome home!

I don't think the Miralax can hurt, as long as Hershey isn't constipated already. It may be worth talking to your vet. You can always add more water to his food and try something like adding some oil (olive oil, butter, salmon oil) to his food to see if that will help.

Re your constipation question, I think the best way to judge is by looking at his poop. Is it hard and chunky or smooth and long? If hard and chunky, it's constipation and yes, give some Miralax, 1/8 tsp to start. If smooth and looks ok, I would watch him and make sure it's not urine he's struggling with. He's been traveling and that could have screwed him up a little too. At any rate, the Miralax can't hurt if you think it necessary, just give lots of water with it. I always offer some fresh water in the bowl and put extra in her food, as well as give it to her mixed with 3 syringes of water. The Miralax pulls water from the colon to make her stools softer so you want to replace it.

Maybe there was a green number hiding in between the 152 and the 202? Your note said he didn't eat at the 152 test...
Or maybe he found that things weren't exactly the way he remembered leaving them :lol:

Hey, Liz - Hershey had nicer numbers when we went overnight to the beach, too. Maybe he just likes vacations?! Thanks for the Miralax info and especially for the start low warning. ;-)

Hey, Sienne - I add a good amount of water to Hershey's food, was trying to head off constipation. Bless his heart, sometimes his food is more like bouillon! :oops: I may have some olive oil; I'll have to check. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hey, Melanie - Since Hershey switched to canned food his poop has been drier. And, since he NEVER covers it, it's always hard when I see it. Good thought that the traveling may have messed with his system, too. This is only his second overnight trip, the first one was just one night.

Hey, Carl - I don't think there was time for a green and back up to (202), but it could be that he thinks somebody came in and messed with his stuff while he was gone! This was his 4th dose on the reduction, so the depot is cleared, too...


Thanks, y'all, for welcoming us home! Be it ever so humble...I missed y'all and am trying to get back into the swing of things...I'm more 'mature' than I thought because this vacation absolutely wiped me out! Sent the kids out to Bob's BBQ tonight for BBQ and Brunswick Stew because my mind was too foggy to even think of what to cook and my body was too tired to cook it! :lol: Brunswick stew is one of THE BEST comfort foods EVER and Bob's is THE BEST!!! :-D


+4.5 (302) - We had a little talk about switching these numbers...We'll see if he listens...Guess vacation wiped the kitties out, too...they've both slept a lot since we got home. And, Hershey's appetite is back to normal.
