Charlie seems to be on the right track with this new dose. Still early days but it's promising to see less red in her chart.
She's in another good mood this morning. Still hiding behind the couch a bit, which she never did pre-diabetes, but that's ok as maybe she needs more quiet time.

Woke up with a splitting headache this morning so I will be at home with Charlie today.

Re: 8/15 Charlie AMPS 347

Ouch, sorry about your headache, (((Jilll))). Do you happen to have any essential oils at home? Melissa oil is fantastic for headaches, a drop on each temple and a half hour's rest and it should help tremendously. If you have it. I hope it subsides soon!

I'm so happy to read how perky Charlie is!! Fabulous news. Happy Wednesday!

Re: 8/15 Charlie AMPS 347

Never heard about 'melissa oil', but I will try ANYTHING if it's that easy! Thanks for the tip. Trigger point massage is sometimes the only thing that can cure my headaches when they are this bad.

Meanwhile, Charlie is doing much better today so that is a major relief! Lets hope she continues in that direction!

Re: 8/15 Charlie AMPS 347

Yup. It's funny, a lot of people know and use the more "common" essential oils like lavender, or tea tree, but there are around 70 different ones that can be applied to literally countless common health issues. (I'm getting my international certificate from the Pacific Institute of Aromatherapy. I've used oils medicinally for years and love that I don't always have to straight to allopathic treatments - headaches for aspirin, ABs for infections and so on.) If you haven't got melissa oil, you should be able to buy a bottle (most commonly in 10ml or 11ml bottles, make sure you check the expiry date, and don't keep them in bathroom cupboards where temp and moisture fluctuate too much) in a good pharmacy or health store. Let me know if you try it and it helps, if you like

I've had Charlie in my thoughts daily - sending lots of vines, hoping she will continue to feel better and better and that soon you'll have got to the bottom of whatever's going on with that infection and so on. I'm so glad you and your partner take such loving care of her. One lucky kitty!

Re: 8/15 Charlie AMPS 347

Thanks for all your support, Jane. Everyone around us thinks we're crazy. My colleague even had the nerve to say to me yesterday: "If that cat didn't have you, you know what she would have??? Peace!"

She was implying that we are putting Charlie through unnatural and painful processes and that we should put her down.
Quite annoying as we know in our hearts that everything we are doing is for Charlie and not for our own selfish motives of just keeping her alive. 4 vets have told us to not even consider putting Charlie to sleep, but the 'average Joe' thinks we're idiots. That can be quite frustrating.

Still, we press on.

Thanks, in large part, to the support of the wonderful and caring people on this board!

(((Jill))) I'm sorry you've been confronted with that sort of, sadly quite common, attitude... I've heard from many LL'ers and FDMB'ers who've had insensitive people like that come up to them and, despite their utter lack of knowledge about FD, shove their reprehensible opinions down their throats. It drives me mad, too.

Thank GOODNESS Charlie has you and your partner, who persevere even when some silly twit spouts seven types of sh*t about what they think is best. She is a beautiful, happy, loving creature who doesn't even know she's got FD. All she knows is how much you love her, and she feels that everyday, every time you do anything to keep her safe and healthy. I'm so glad she has you both! You're heroes, like everyone who presses on even when things get really tough.

Glad that Charlie is doing better with this dose.
How people act & say doesnt matter. As long as our furry babies are getting better, nobody has the right to judge or comment. We on LL share the same feeeling towards our kitties. :YMHUG:

Re: 8/15 Charlie AMPS 347 +2 317

How awful that someone said that to you. I've had the same thing happen. All we can do is ignore such stupid people. We know we are doing the best thing for our furbabies and they know how much we love them. I'm glad Charlie is doing better. Keep up the good work. I hope your headache gets better quickly.

Re: 8/15 Charlie AMPS 347 +2 317

:YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: How terrible that someone would say that but I am not surprised. Charlie is one lucky kitty to have a bean like you. Hope your headache gets better soon. Have a great stay-at-home day!

Re: 8/15 Charlie AMPS 347 +2 317

Some people are SUCH idiots! Everyone deserves a chance at being healthy, cared for, and medically treated. Boy, what an uproar the world would be in if we took that approach with humans who are diabetic or ill in any other way!

Yes, Charlie is very lucky...and the only thing that matters is that you love her, and she loves you, and every decision is made based on that love.

Nice start to the day...have a great one!

Re: 8/15 Charlie AMPS 347 +2 317

I've always found that asking whether that would be their attitude if this were an infant shuts people down very quickly.

Re: 8/15 Charlie AMPS 347 +2 317

Sorry about your headache hope you feel better soon! Glad to hear Charlie is in a good mood and I see she has moved from red to pink, good job Charlie!
I am disappointed but not surprised you were subjected to heartless remarks. Grrrr! There are a lot of people who just dont get it about caring for our cats, for sure some are just jerks, and some regard animals as livestock rather than companions and family. I do know some otherwise decent people who blurted cruel remarks out of their impression diabetes care would overwhelm them, I guess no one likes to feel inadequate. In fairness I did not know how manageable fd really is until we got on with it, so with decent folks, I give myself points when I can enlighten them or at least ignore them, instead of excoriate them for dissing how I care for my baby, grrrrr.
Hope your headache subsides and you and Charlie have a good day!

Especially if you say their specific kid. Duh. I have to say that I do understand why someone wouldn't want to do this. It's really hard. But, I also can't imagine not doing it.

I'm glad to see some better numbers for Charlie this morning. I hope you're feeling better, Jill.

Re: 8/15 Charlie AMPS 347 +2 317

Hi guys, first I'm sorry you had such a terrible headache this morning .. second, how awful of a thing for your colleague to say to you! I agree with Sienne, no one questions mothers or fathers taking care of their infant children, why question us when taking care of our furbabies?? It is nice to see charlie coming down and hopefully as this continues, she'll spend less time behind the couch ... hang in there!!
