? 8/12 Jude +10 153 coming out of remission?

Jude was first diagnosed 3/25 of this year. We started him on Vetsulin, but quickly switched to Lantus, and also switched him to low carb food. That seemed to rapidly work for him, and he was OTJ 4/28. I've been checking him weekly (instead of the recommended monthly), and he's been pretty steady, but on 8/7, he shot up to 179. I checked him a bit later that day, and his BG was headed down, and it ended up being fairly normal that day. I've been checking him about every other day, and he's been normal, but today when I got home from work he was 153, which is far higher than he has been being. So we've had two higher days this week, still not over 200, but I'm worried we're edging back up and that he is coming out of remission.

Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions. He remains on a low carb diet of Tiki After Dark pate and/or FF Classics Pate and Young Again Zero LID twice a day as a small snack only. He seems normal--not drinking water. The morning that his BG went up to 179, he was VERY hungry. Otherwise, he seems normal.

Thanks!

Any chance of a uti? How are his teeth? Try testing 3-4 hours after he eats.
You went from .50 to nothing as far as insulin goes. We would have had you reduce to .25, 0.1, and if not all green a drop dose. He just might need more support.

After he was at .50, his numbers were all well below 200, so I was advised (here) not to give him insulin. Can you explain further what you mean by "he just might need more support." Thank you!!

I don't know about his teeth. I should take him in for an exam. I don't think he has a UTI. When this whole thing started, I think he had a UTI, and I took him to the vet who gave him a steroid shot along with an antibiotic. It was the third steroid shot he'd had within a year, and I believe that that shot is what pushed him into diabetes. The day after the shot, he began being symtomatic: drinking water, lethargic, etc., with high bg.

I went back and read your condos and see that Wendy did say to try an otj trial. Keep testing and if he continues to inch up he might need a tiny amount of insulin. I’d see where he is 3-4 hours after eating for awhile and try and give as little YA as possible. Let’s see what Wendy thinks. @Wendy&Neko

Sorry for the late reply, just back from a holiday with minimal wifi.

Reading back, the spreadsheet has some errors on it. For example, on 4/11 your post said you shot 0.25 units. On 4/14, you said you shot a 0.1 unit dose. That was after a couple days of skips, and he still went below 58 that cycle. Note, Mary is using an AT to test. So that mean 0.1 units was too much insulin and a trial was suggested.

If he does see numbers above 160 again, it'd be worth taking him in for a vet exam again. Cats can see temporary higher numbers for a number of reasons, so testing again like you did later was a good idea. Looks like he's come down to his more normal range lately. :)
