Happy Caturday, Everyone,

Rusty has a much better AMPS today, so I postponed my plan to take him up a drop as I continue my effort to replicate his 1.5s dose on the new, Terumo syringes. I had the usual problem this morning with the Terumo: insulin leaked out of the tip of the needle. But today the leak occurred as I was pulling the syringe out of the cat (this, even though I held the syringe in for 10 seconds! And, to boot, there was a half drop left in the syringe--discovered too late to shoot it). The Terumos are a weird combination of being too responsive when your finger is on the plunger, and then, conversely, retaining insulin even after the shot. I don't like the idea of having to compensate for this by adjusting the dose, because it doesn't happen every time. It would be akin to compensating for the faulty hubs in the Monojects, and I switched syringes to avoid having to do that!!

Well, in any event, the day is getting off to a good start. Rusty had a good night. No thunderstorms to disturb his sleep. He enjoyed his breakfast of Wellness chicken (from the 3 oz. can, product of Canada). He's chillaxin' in his broken-down coffee box (which is where we do most of our shots now).

It's not raining this morning, but is very damp and tepid. We'll be going to the farmers' market later this morning.

Wishing all a good day. Sending healing vines to Leo and to all kitties who need some, and sending fast-recovery vines to Barbara (Tuffy),

Re: 8/11 Rusty AMPS 113

Morning Ella!

Oh wow on those syringes... what a hassle for you. Sorry for all the trouble. Hope all that gets better, though I'm beginning to wonder about them. it seems like there is alot of adjustments that need to be made?

Rusty is off to a great start today - what nice Amps. Green lagoon later Rusty?

Enjoy the farmers market today - I love those. I hope you run into some great finds.

Enjoy the day.

Re: 8/11 Rusty AMPS 113

Morning Ella, the Terumos seem to be really sensitive. I saw on Ann & Tess's condo something, too, about them. I've been okay on the MJ's, but the drops are much easier to measure. Very nice AMPS this morning for Rusty. Enjoy the Farmer's market. I made it to Trader Joe's yesterday briefly, as traffic and parking was a zoo. Love those places. Have a wonderful day.

Re: 8/11 Rusty AMPS 113

Wow, those syringe-adjustments sounds tough! You're a star for hanging in there that way!
I hope the issue gets resolved and you can be sure you're being consistent.
Have fun at the Farmer's Market. Happy Caturday

Re: 8/11 Rusty AMPS 113

Sir Rusty! Just LOOK at bootiful you - what a nice number you handed Mama this morning. No one here likes those thunderboomers either - everyone hides.

Ella - enjoy your day, farmer's market sounds so wonderful. I would SO love to be able to go to our local one but, alas, can't leave DH on weekends - no 'babysitter'. Can't take him as the walking is too much, can't leave him in the car as it's no different than leaving him at home....SO, I'll visit it thru your eyes.....

BIG HUGE HUG!!!!

Re: 8/11 Rusty AMPS 113, +5.5 155(!)

Hi again,
Weird number for a +5 (and we've had a lot of unexpected numbers lately). I just checked my meter on myself and compared it with my two back-up meters and all were within a few points of each other, so I don't think it's the battery or the meter failing (changed the battery just to be on the safe side). I guess it's the dose, or the syringe, or both, or the cat (who, however, is acting perfectly normally). Maybe his nadir is changing. So many factors to consider! I still have some "good" Monojects, so maybe I'll go back to them for a few days, just to see what happens.

bbl. It isn't raining, so I'm going out for a short bike ride. Rusty is in his basket, as is usual at this time of day, taking his "down time".

That's a tough one, having all those things to consider. Hope he comes back to the lagoon.

Re: 8/11 Rusty AMPS 113, +5.5 155(!)

Good day!! I finally got the hang of the monojects, and because Moonie's dose is 0.2U now, I do like them..
Hope you can find the right syringe for the elusive perfect dose!!
Hope Rusty comes down for you later today--Have a good bike ride & a cooler summer evening!
Hugs & love from us!

Re: 8/11 Rusty AMPS 113, +5.5 155(!), +9 160, PMPS 115

Hi again,
I was surprised to see 115 at PMPS, especially after the mid-cycle high numbers. I was all set to go back to the Monojects, but decided instead to use the Terumo and the caliper measurement that I have been using (2.12mm) for the evening cycle. The shot went pretty well, but again there was a small drop left in the syringe. I think I do have to take Rusty's dose up a drop on the Terumos (to 2.23mm). I'll do that tomorrow morning. He needs to have more greens.

Rusty almost caught the chipmunk this afternoon. I had to run to the store and Rusty and Edward were out in the garden, relaxing. All of a sudden Rusty was off like a flash. The chipmunk ran for his life and reached the rocks before Rusty could get him. Rusty spent the rest of the afternoon camped out by the rocks, but in the meantime Shadow showed up and he almost caught something (a squirrel?). Rusty was not happy that Shadow was usurping his hunting grounds. He hissed at him and took a swipe, too! Shadow danced around him and went home!!

Hope you all are having a good evening,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 8/11 Rusty AMPS 113, +5.5 155(!), +9 160, PMPS 115

Ella

Well I feel horrible that you changed syringes and are having such a time with them. I do hold the plunger in HARD and count to ten and then when I take it out, I do it very slowly and I don't have any left on the end or in the syringe. To double check, I release the pressure on the plunger and then push down hard again as that would bring any insulin to the top and I don't have any. I had to do this with the MJs, too. I don't know if that helps and I don't know if Rusty would sit still as you slowly withdraw the syringe. Gracie doesn't care....as long as I'm holding onto her fur, she sits there.

Paws crossed for you. I did suspect you would have to fine tune the dose a bit. I think it just comes down to whatever syringe you are most comfortable with.

Have a great evening. :-D

Re: 8/11 Rusty AMPS 113, +5.5 155(!), +9 160, PMPS 115

Thanks, Marje, I'll try the second "press" tomorrow (I already do the 10 seconds and I also withdraw the syringe slowly). But I may indeed return to the MJs. I have 6 boxes of them here. I'm going to start going through the boxes and picking out the syringes that don't look too "off".

Re: 8/11 Rusty AMPS 113, +5.5 155(!), +9 160, PMPS 115

BOO on syringe troubles! I'm sure the inconsistencies are greater when doing the smaller doses; I don't look forward to that!

Who knows on the +5.5...it's another one of those kitty mysteries they don't want to share with us...

Have a wonderful weekend -

Libby (& Hershey, too!)

Blues are nice and with all the syringe drama, blue beats a few other colors that shall not be named!

We finally got the calipers sorted out to where we feel confident using them, so we are working our way through our giant box of MJ "rejects". I bought a box of the Terumos not too long ago when we were about to go bonkers over the Monojets, but they were just a little "too touchy". And at the time, the MJs were making us crazy enough without trying to sort out a completely new syringe.

Hope you have a good Caturday evening and sweet dreams!
