What's up with the return of the reds. I've never given her more than 2 units since she was diagnosed in December, I hope it doesn't come to having to give her more.

Sometimes you have to come up to come down. I would ask tonight if you need another increase. You have been at 2u for 72 hours.

Re: 8/11 Miss Kitty AMPS 456 dose advice for tonight please

Should I increase her again based on these recent red numbers?

Re: 8/11 Miss Kitty AMPS 456 dose advice for tonight please

I wouldn't worry about the amount of insulin. You shoot what Miss Kitty needs and her numbers have not been looking that good lately. I want to encourage you to evaluate the dose every 6 cycles. Providing there's not a bounce to clear, you need to increase in order to prevent Miss Kitty from staying in high numbers and her body interpreting those numbers as "normal."

Also, have you ruled out any health related issues? Does Miss Kitty need a dental?

Re: 8/11 Miss Kitty AMPS 456 dose advice for tonight please

The vet usually says her teeth look ok for her age, so I have never gotten her a dental cleaning/checkup because it costs $500.00! I need to take her back in soon as I think the vet is going to hold her insulin prescription hostage until I do.

Re: 8/11 Miss Kitty AMPS 456 dose advice for tonight please

Teeth that are "good for her age" isn't an answer. Gingivitis can cause Miss Kitty's BG to be elevated. In addition, it's generally hard to get a reasonable idea of what's going on with a cat's teeth unless the cat is anesthetized.

Re: 8/11 Miss Kitty AMPS 456 dose advice for tonight please

I suppose so. The anesthesia is what makes is so expensive I would imagine. I just can't afford it. I can't afford the dentist for myself either. Dental health benefits are practically non-existent.

I will try her dose a bit higher in the morning, that will be the completion of her 6th cycle on the current dose.

Yay, I got a yellow. I'll get my husband to wake me up later and check again. I wonder if there are more affordable places to get dental care for cats. I know my vet I go to is one of the most expensive, I've never checked around elsewhere. I guess I should check on that.
