I gave her the morning dose late at 11am, and am having a hard time figuring out what .1 unit is - it also seems like some syrgines (BD vs the 1/2 unit Walgreens ones which I ran out of, tried to get more last night, first they said they had them in stock, that I needed a script which I had had my vet give me, then after waiting 20 min to fill the script, they tell me they don't have the 1/2 unit ones in stock and have to order. I have already ordered the Monoject ones from ADW so they will be there by the time Walgreens orders. Does Walmart require a script for the syringes they sell (and do they have 1/2 units on them). I am in California. I don't know why you can order online with no script but need one at the pharmacy.

The BD syringes (without half unit) seem to have less extra space between that 0.0 black line and the rest of the syringe than the Walgreens ones did. I am not confident that I am giving the same couple 3 drops every time. Today her BG seems lower at 3 hours than it should be and am afraid I gave her too much so we'll see. I need to get new prescription for reading glasses that might help, I have some trouble seeing close up for the last couple years and have glasses but prescription needs updating.

She is definitely eating well and seems to be in good spirits, I try to give her the Fancy Feast classic without carbs but sometimes I give her stuff with gravy if she doesn't want to eat anything else. Wet food only (she won't eat dry anyway). Biggest challenge is keeping the other cats from eating all her food! Well not the biggest challenge but one ...

I am also telling people I can't go anywhere between 5-8 hours after her shot to make sure she is stable and not hypo. I guess it's a good excuse to get out of something you don't really want to do anyway!

Any advice on best syringes or getting used to the small dose, I am practicing with water but still don't feel like I'm getting it the same each time. Monoject syringes should come soon. Willing to try Walmart if they come in 1/2 unit and they are not as clueless as Walgreens about figuring out if they are in stock.

I didn't think we needed RX in CA for syringes, but it may be a local ordinance. Walmart is supposed to have them, but I don't shop there either. I use a magnifying visor, but I know you can get a magnifier just for syringes, I think it some sort of sleeve. Ask at the pharmacy.

Different brands of syringes will vary a bit. Best to stick w/ one for consistency. I don't think they envision the tiny doses we have to give.

How much later was the shot than normal? Remember that 11:00 will be the new shot time.

Walmart's Relion brand syringe does come in half units. California does not require a prescription for syringe purchases.

The guy at Walgreen's told me he could give me 10 syringes without a prescription, for 100 I need a prescription. Can you imagine giving someone 10 blood pressure pills or the like without a prescription but not more than 10, ridiculous. Either prescription is required or it isn't They really don't know what's what but they don't really let you argue with them. I wonder where I can look up the law or something? I just don't see Mt View California having some ordinance on needles that the state doesn't have.

Do you get the Walmart ones at the pharmacy, where you have to ask for the box or something? And they won't insist on a prescription?

Also, my bottle with the Lantus from my vet, says 'roll gently' on it. Which I now know is not correct. I am sure they are telling everyone to do this & doing it to the original vial. Does rolling actually hurt it? How do I explain to them that this is not correct for Lantus (it doesn't say DON'T roll it on the prescribing info but I'm sure the other insulins, that require it, do say that. Lantus is supposed to be clear and the others should be mixed/cloudy?). I also got a sterile vial with the insulin transferred from another vial which isn't good. And they told me to shoot the insulin back into the vial when measuring (they did this in the ICU when she was there too, I watched). Lots of bad information from vets but who is going to listen to me when I'm not a vet.

It was 1/2 hour late. I slept through the right time (again). I was awake much earlier but then fell back asleep. I have strange sleeping habits because I am awake so much of the night. I guess there was some tree removal thing going on a couple houses down with chain saws and my husband couldn't believe I slept through *that* but I did.

I had to go buy reading glasses when Lucy got down to 0.1u. It really helps!

I can't answer for California, but in both North and South Carolina I have been able to just go to the WalMart pharmacy and ask for a box of 31 gauge, 3/10cc insulin syringes and I've gotten them. It's easier than buying Sudafed these days.

This link is where I found information on the state laws. FWIW, I buy my syringes on-line. I've never had a problem with purchasing them through Hocks. I placed an order with ADW and they wanted a prescription. Go figure. In Illinois, where Walgreen's has it's corporate headquarters, a pharmacy can give you up to 20 syringes without a prescription. My guess is that this is to tide a person over until they can get an Rx.

There is information on the Lantus/Sanofi website that says Lantus does not need to be shaken.
