Good morning! I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend.

Xander is starting to acclimate to the gabapentin, no longer showing nearly as much tiredness and he's completely back to being social and seeking me out during the day. The appetite effects aren't as ravenous as those first 2 days but im pretty sure its helping. Although all his meals aren't big, they're overall larger than before and he's getting to target every day.

Flare scared me the past 2 days not finishing his food, as he usually sucks it all down instantly. I switched his flavor over this morning and he cleaned the bowl so hopefully just food boredom.

Ivy seen Ivy with that look too when I’ve had to sedate her. Breaks my heart.

I’m so glad he’s doing better now that he’s adjusted to the medication. And I’m very glad to hear. Flair is eating better after a switch in his diet.

Bell was super zoned out when she first started. She still gets sleepy for a bit on it (hard to tell with how lazy she is), but I don't get the completely zoned out look anymore, thankfully. I think it took a couple weeks

Yeah I was really sad the first 2 days when he didn't come to me once. But now he's back to his usual self and seems to be in a steady pattern of eating well. Hard to tell but think its also helping his numbers a bit. Today was an unexpected dip that needed some MC assistance though

That was my biggest concern thinking is he gonna be like this forever, but its been only 5 days and it only makes him a little extra sleepy for a few hours. Xander is also a lazy bones.

We went to the vet to discuss the increased effort it takes to feed him despite daily mirataz and ondansetron. She didnt have a lot to offer but recommended we could try out a trial of 30mg gaba twice a day to see if pain/discomfort is a factor.

Im not sure if the improvement is from reduced pain or merely a side effect but its working. Not effortless but relatively pretty great! I hate to add another med but if it works

I tend to think most senior pets have OA and other issues and would benefit from supplements to help ( Fish oil/ glucosamine) or some pain relief. Gabapentin has a wide dosing range and overtime does require small increases. Makoto was eventually on 150mg 3x/ day but he also couldn't have opiods due to a hypersensitivity. Not sure if the vet mentioned it but even though Gaba is not a steroid, you want to phase out dosing in a similar way ( if you do stop at some point or miss a dose) Do not just stop giving it , as that can cause " rebound" pain ( quick and more severe) in cats.
