Caught up his spreadsheet, he's had some really wonky numbers. Based on yesterday, I was expecting higher numbers:

8/9
418 AMPS; 1.2U
303 +4
420 +7
448 PMPS; 1.4U
344 +3
141 +9
166 +12 (AMBG)
185 +15
246 +17 -- gave a drop of insulin as he was rising...
234 +2

Hope it was OK to give him a drop at +17, he did eat then and dropped a bit 2 hours later. If he goes back into the shooting range at 5 p.m. (his normal evening shot time and 7 hours after the drop of insulin), will it be OK to give him a shot then? I gave him basically what was in the needle, just barely over the bottom mark on the U40 syringe. I'm calling it .2U.

I think the drop is fine, Susan. And a normal shot should be okay, as long as he is rising and in safe numbers. (we do usually say +8, but you will monitor carefully)

Since he hadn't had a shot in 17 hours, I didn't want to leave him without one for 24 and have him go way high again. I thought it better to give him a touch of insulin instead of letting him climb into the high 400's. It may have been OK to give him some at his normal preshot, but I'm not comfortable giving insulin under 200, and he was at 166. I probably wouldn't have given it when he was at 185, either...

I can't do the 3 times a day thing consistently, so don't even want to try that. I may back his evening dose down a hair to compensate for the little dose on board at that time, depends on his preshot number (in about 2 hours).

I tested him about an hour ago and he was starting to climb again -- 244.

He went a little higher than I'd like, but lower than I expected. I still dropped the dose a bit to compensate for the mini dose he had earlier.
