Pumbaa bounced off of some number I didn't catch yesterday. Lately he hasn't been going up to pink unless he hit green. But, at least, once again, he's clearing that bounce quickly!

We started our 4th Lantus pen this morning for the AM shot, and another variable that was introduced was my starting to use the new Relion Prime BG meter as of the PMPS. But I tested the new meter on myself, in a side by side comparison to one single drop of my blood, and the two meters were only different by one single point. Whew! That made me very happy, since the new Relion Prime meter has test strips that are only $.18 each, instead of $.36 each if the Relion Confirm/Micro strips are purchased from Walmart.

You can read my review of the new Relion Prime as well as my comparison of it to the Relion Micro I have been using here.

I swear that Pumbaa reads his SS somehow, and has some alarm clock that warns him that testing time or testing/feeding/shooting time is eminent, because he avoids me like the plague during these times! Yet, in between these poking times he will let me go up to him and rub his belly and pet him, or he will come to me for some loving. As I've said before, he's a smart little bugger! *LOL* And I have changed my routine constantly so that he has no clue what is coming up via sounds or via my activity. Built in alarm clock and a higher IQ than his mom...that's all I can figure out. :)

It might be a long night tonight since Pumbaa's PMPS was 165 and he had been dropping most of the day. Thank god the couch and I are good friends now. I just wish the alarm "snooze" button would shout out, "Yo, asswipe, you told us to wake you up at this time for some purpose, so hitting the "snooze" button isn't going to get us off of your case!" :)

Alas Pumbaa and Chip are back to the same dose, the same new test strips and the same flat pink. Again.

What gives? :-|

At least Pumbaa's bounce will clear and he will hit blue or green again?

*LMAO* I don't know, but I still think the two of them are sneaking phone calls to each other!

We could just share the same big fat lantus condo again. I'm that >< close if this Levemir doesn't do something. ;-)

On his 16th cycle on Levemir, he had a blue. There's no way that the Lantus was still in his system 16 cycles later, is there? So...at 1.0U on the Levemir, he was capable of producing a blue. And that was at +11 PM. Could his nadir actually be at +11 now, and you're missing some of the lowest numbers?

I'm just pulling at straws here.

In Pumbaa's case, I typed on his SS this morning, "I love how quickly Pumbaa is clearing his bounces." So, being the contrary cat that he is, he decided to do the opposite of what I typed, once again.

He did that almost every 4th day no matter the dose for his entire 6 weeks of Lantus. I suspect it may be related to the Beth/Atlas effect where some of the counterregulatory factors seem to have cycles.

If the FlexPen was totally bad, the numbers might look similar, but I think his clinical signs would surely come roaring back. So it must be something else, like with his system the insulin delivery isn't efficient or effective. Or maybe it's just so smooth and gentle it can't get any traction?

Poor Dale and poor Chip! I don't know the answer. If I did, I'd tell you!

As for the clinical signs of FD appearing again, since they haven't I would think it's safe to assume that he is utilizing the Levemir and able to absorb his nutrients now. The million dollar question is, so why aren't his numbers improving greatly?

You know my lifelong vet tried to warn me about all these crazy internet theories.

Guess the chickens are coming home to roost. :o
