Hi all!

Nebula has been doing great at 0.5u for the past 5 cycles and had her first light green an hour ago (36 on human, 54 on pet so it was an accurate reading). We fed her a bit and at +4 she went back up into good green territory with a reading of 83. I'm going to set an alarm for a +6 reading just in case.

My question is, for the AMPS and moving forward, should I go with another reduction to 0.25u or is it too soon?

Thanks for everyone's help!

A drop into the 30s is a recommended reduction of 0.25 unit. Please reduce to 0.25 unit at the next Preshot.
Don’t leave it 2 hours before retesting the BG.
It is possible it could drop again after the higher carb food wears off. Please test in 1 hour after the last test.
Congratulations on the reducie

I want to clarify Bron's comment. The following is from the sticky on handling low numbers:

If your cat is testing in low numbers and you are not getting a quick response to your post, there are several things you need to do. (Low numbers are under 50mg/dL or 2.8 mmol/L.)
  • Depending on how carbohydrate sensitive your cat is, feed approximately a teaspoon or less of gravy from high carb food or high carb food only. (If you have a cat with GI issues, using a couple of drops of syrup plus low carb food is an alternative.)
  • Test again in 15 – 20 min. Depending on the numbers, give more HC food.
  • Repeat the above steps every 15 – 20 min. until your cat tests in the 50 mg/dL (2.8 mmol/L) or above range for 2 consecutive tests. Continue to feed in small amounts to keep numbers in a safe range.
  • Test in 30 - 40 min. and repeat the test and feed process until there are 2 consecutive tests where numbers are stable or rising.
  • Test in an hour and follow the same steps.
DO NOT become complacent. If numbers have risen after one or two tests, it’s important to continue testing. Numbers may bobble up and down as the HC food and/or Karo wear off. DO NOT get one test where your cat has risen from low numbers into the 50s and go to sleep or leave the house. You are putting your cat in a risky situation. When in doubt, leave HC food out.
Getting only one test after a test in the 30s could be dangerous. High carb food can wear off and numbers can drop back into a low range. If you look at Gabby's SS, if she was in low numbers, I was testing every 15 - 20 min and as numbers were stabilizing, I would test every 30 min until it was safe to go to sleep or leave the house.

I agree with the others. Getting numbers in the 30s and 40s require much for follow-up. Testing every 20 minutes is advisable and feeding h/c to get kitty out of dangerous territory. Sometimes, when you feed the high carb it can wear off and kitty will drop again. You need to stay on top of this and check two hours after no food, when you get them into a safe number, to make sure they are staying up without food.

I always think it is a good idea to get a +2 - every time. You can usually tell from that number if they are going to go up or go down. Maybe if you had done that you could have stopped Manny from dropping so low and would not be reducing tonight. I know we all want reductions but sometimes they fail and we just have to go back up again. Best to try and keep them above 50 until there little body adjust to the doses. Good luck, Melody.
