Hi all,
We are scheduled for surgery in the morning tomorrow 8/2. First they will run some tests. She has to be fasting so I was planning to skip the AM dose. I got us up to a 5pm shot so that I could give her the shot this evening and be able to keep feeding her all the way through the nadir but stay within the minimum fasting hours. That was rough! Waking up at 4:15 am!
I was planning to skip the AM dose, since I can't feed her anything. I assume that is best, but if you have any advice different than that, please let me know.
If you know anything about the effects of anesthesia on BGs or if there are choices I can make about types or quantity of anesthesia to reduce risks, please let me know that too. She is fairly weakened by ongoing stress and loosely regulated diabetes, to say nothing of the SCC on her neck that bothers her so much. I want to be as cautious as possible
This includes any meds they may recommend like antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, pain killers, etc...If you have experience with these please share!
Dosing at PM: if all goes well and she comes home with me, I have to see how she does eating and digesting. Any recommendations are super welcome and needed! If she stays there, they will give Lantus, and feed my food if she is able to.
I will see if they can get a sensor on her properly with my guidance, but I don't know for sure.
I may not be able to monitor her BGs closely so keep this in mind when making suggestions.
Please also send lots of love, wishes, prayers, positive thoughts and visualizations for everything going smoothly, efficiently, quickly and easily, and Jessi coming out of this much, much better than before!
Thank you!
