7 Nov Tucker: AMPS was 4.0, then 3.9, dropped to 2.6

Guys, I'm back and Tucker has done some weird things over the last few days. Highs and lows on a 4.25. I've not been able to get the spreadsheet to accept the new numbers so have just reloaded and tried to add. I think they are up now?? When he dropped to 2.6 I gave him some LC food, which he inhaled. Now he is purring next to me.

Hi Patty and welcome back. Hope you had a great trip.
I see Tucker is back to his old tricks!
I can see the SS now
Retest and see that he is safe after the lc food. He may need some higher carb food.
He has earned a reduction in dose with the 2.6(47)

Hi Bron, Thank you!
I tested him after the low carb food after half an hour and he was at 3.2. I gave him a half dose at that time as it was getting late after shot time and I didn't want to give him the full dose or skip a full dose either. I hope that was ok to do? I feel pretty rusty on this routine!

You will soon get back in the saddle:D. Tucker will make sure of that.
Make sure you get a +1 and +2 to see he is not dropping again and more tests as the insulin kicks in. Feed as needed to steer the cycle.
Don't forget the dose reduction at PMPS.

Can I ask you about the reduction bit? Last night this boy was at 20 (I've misplaced my conversion sheet...but that is about as high as he has ever been). I'm not sure if he has earned a reduction with that or what the heck is going on. Can you take a peek at his spread sheet and tell me what you think is happening. He is pretty much always a happy boy but in the last 24 hours he has growled when picked up-strange behaviour for him! He's currently purring next to me but if I tried to pick him up I'm pretty sure he would hiss.

I know Claire couldn't get many tests during the cycles because of work. She did an amazing job keeping him safe and well for you!
What you need to do now is get some tests in during the cycle to see if he is dropping low and then bouncing back up.
Tucker has always got over his bounces really quickly so it is possible he is dropping low during some of the cycles and then you are seeing a high preshot.
The 20.4 (367) last night could have been a bounce from the 6.6(118) AMPS that morning. Or he might just be being Tucker.
Tucker will probably bounce from the 2.6 (48) this morning but still take the reduction and test often to see how he goes once he comes off the bounce...which doesn't take long for Tucker.

Feed him some higher carb food and test again in 20 mins.
I think you are going to have a busy morning.
I'd try and get him up around 4 (72) and try and keep him there so you have a bit of Lee way for when the insulin kicks in.

Ok, that sounds good. I'm on it. Tough day for him to pull this monkey business! Thanks for your advice.

Just for the future, shooting a 2.6 (48) is not advised. The 3.2 (58) was food influenced and not a true reading of what was happening. I would be interested to hear what others think. I know that if one stalls for too long the BSL can drop. I err on the side of caution.
I have to go out to a specialist apt in less than an hour and am wondering if there is anyone else who can help Patty with Tucker

Hey Patty, with him being that low before the insulin even kicks in, like Bron mentioned, you want to get him boosted up with some more higher carb food and keep testing him every 20 minutes. Looks like you shot a reduced dose but the depot from the higher dose is talking now. He has earned a reduction with going under 50 so there is nothing to prove with this cycle so if you need to you can abort the cycle with carbing him up and getting him out of the shark infested waters.

I will try to pop in again after I get my mom tucked into bed. Please post your next test number.

I'd give him some honey with that. He is too low and needs to come up over 3, preferably over 4.
I'm glad he is at +5. Don't get complacent though. Retest in 20 mins.
Just seeing you Bobbie....thank you so much for coming online!

I'm doing a spoonful at a time. By the time I pull the spoon away the food is inhaled...crazy cat.

Patty, I will peek in again soon. Today was our country's mid-term election and we are glued to the news coverage of the outcomes, but I will pop in and out. When you get another test please post.

On it. Thank you. Who's up, red or blue over there??
Well, for the House, the Dems have won 2 seats of 45, And the Senate the Dems have taken one out of 10 available ( I think it's 10 available) But the West coast polls are still open so it's not over till the Fat Lady Sings.

I need to sign off. After the next test if he is holding the same number or higher, don't give anymore food and then test again in 30 minutes. You want to get at least 2 more test where he is above 50 without being food influenced to know that he is going to stay up for you and know you are out of the shark infested water.

@Bobbie And Bubba
Have just arrived home so will be around for half hour then have to pick up kids from school then should be back home and be able to be online if necessary.
Thanks so much Bobbie.
Lots out here about the US mid term elections

Update....Patty is having trouble with her computer and FDMB. She is logged in but when she types, nothing is happening.
She said Tucker has had 2 tests of 3.5 (63) without food. She is going to test again shortly.

I'm pretty busy at work these days. Glad to see Tucker is doing pretty good. Too bad about the "welcome back hypo". Other advice about diabetes above is good.

Welcome back home. One thing for Leo is real clear. When I'm gone for a week, he does not do as well. I think the comfort factor of having a stable household and his own parents in the house is very helpful. Maybe Tucker is a bit like that too.

I'm able to post. Numbers are on his ss now. His vet had me not feed him for 2 hours after his 3.3 test to see if it changed. I continued to do a test every 20 minutes. He remained at 3.3 without food for 2 hours. I need to decide what to do for his PM shot. He is curled up on the bed with Teddy and Daisy, purring and being his normal self.

No food for several hours now and he is at 6.7. Giving himself a big bath and both kittens are trying to wash his ears off for him (where I have poked his ears to bit today). He is actually laying her with his ears folded inside out with 2 ragdolls licking them as he is licking his paws.... not a care in the world.

Our vet suggests he deserves a reduction. At first she said to go down to 2 units but now has said that is only for a once-off. She wants me to consider doing 3 units tonight, continue testing to see if he goes too low or too high and then adjust in the morning. Either up to a straight 4 or a decide on somewhere between 3 and 4. I'm not good at this and am not sure what to do.

The 6.7 (121) is +11 right?
See what the PMPS is but I think he would be fine with 4 units. That’s taking the reduction he earned.
If he’s jumped up to 6.7 (121) he’s on the way up and might be going to bounce after a very low cycle.
You will need to test .. get a +1 and +2 to start with to see what he has in mind.
What do you think about that? Or would you rather go with the vets suggestion?

Thanks for the update Bron, I just awoke and this thread is the first thing I looked out to see what happened. Good call on just taking the reduction he earned.

Way to handle the lower numbers Patty!

And I got back on! We think it has to do with my computer resetting after being in several different time zones, at least we hope it is that simple.
Tucker is playing with a cool mouse toy I brought him from CA...with Teddy and Daisy right behind him. He's gone up to 13 but is still happy. I'm assuming it is a bounce from the super low numbers so I'll stick with the 4 units in the morning and see how long it takes him to calm down. Any other suggestions, post them here and it can be discussed. Thanks for everything!!

I hope your computer issue is fixed. That must of made you feel like your right arm was cut off when it cut out on you.

He is bouncing from the low cycle in the AM . And not a too big of a bounce either considering the depot got disturbed with the reduced dose yesterday.

Hi Bobbie, I'm a bit concerned. It's 2:30am here and I got up to recheck Tucker since he had come down to 10 a couple of hours ago. He is now down to 6.8. I'm wondering if it would be ok for me to go to bed or if I should be watching him more closely over the next few hours. At the moment, he is all curled up at my feet with Teddy, very happy and he didn't even wake up for this blood test.
@Bobbie And Bubba

Since nobody has responded for half an hour, I can suggest you grab another test to see if he's holding steady since it's now within the 2 hours pre-shot time.
