Hi all,

And we are back to yellow again, but based on previous 3 days readings I have put her up to 0.75.

A weird midnight question that occurred to me:

Her insulin vial is the same one I have been using since I put her onto Lantus, it is going on for 6 months now - while she was off insulin it was kept in the fridge and doesn't look cloudy or damaged - but could it have lost its efficacy? If this is possible I am happy to get another one (our pharmacy is usually OK with breaking a set of pen vials for me to buy one).

It is hard to tell, but if the insulin is 6 months old, I think I would get a new one to see if that helps. If it doesn't make a difference, then it is the dose.

YAY, got a new Lantus vial - my pharmacy is amazing, they broke up a set of pen vials, and sold me just one for R180 (about $10.75). Fortunately in South Africa they can do that and apparently insulin isn't as expensive as in the US...that said, my vet can only do the big vials for about 5x what I paid for the small one!

Thats great! I found pharmacies sell insulin cheaper in Australia than in the US and also cheaper than the vet.
Will be interesting to see if the new vial makes a difference

Yes, I think those of us living in the 'colonies' are lucky in that way! It does help that they are my local pharmacy and I have been using them for all my med requirements for many years!
 
True, we have to go out for a couple of hours this evening though, but I will put a new battery in the auto feeder (just in case) and put the timer on for 1.5 hours so that she will get her food at shot time, and then a snack 1.5 hours later (if she was previously going low she would take a rapid dive at about 2 hours), and another snack or meal 2 hours after that - but I think we will be home within 2 hours of shot time, but just in case! Will also be able to get in a few tests tonight as I have a friend staying over and we will be up talking anyway!
 
If you haven't already shot her, you can start the new pen from tomorrow morning.
You could also give this dose another day or two and then start the new pen. Let the depot build and see if her numbers improve.
