Well, after all the drama and my human's worrying, this morning, my blood sugar wasn't too out of whack. It is a little higher than we like, but given the crazy fluctuations we have seen over the past few days, it is tolerable.

My human thinks he may have been the reason for the craziness. You see, he went to Costco to get more Levemir on Friday, but they had closed. So I didn't get my first dose on Saturday until around 10:30, since the Costco pharmacy had the insulin. That probably messed with the timing of my shots.

He backed off a little on the dosing to be safer.

He is not as bad as you might think. He really wants to make this work for me.

Re: 7/8 Bagheera AMPS 227

Hi, I was reading your condo from yesterday and just wanted to chip in about shooting at low numbers.

I know it's really scary at first to shoot those lower numbers, but I have noticed that the really big drops I see in my cat's blood sugar after getting an insulin shot are actually when she starts off high, rather than when she is already low. So at first you think, wow, if the BG drops hundreds of points after a shot how can I possibly shoot when it's just around 100? But actually when I shoot when she's already lower there is often not a huge drop, she will pretty much just hover around the same mark or a bit lower for that whole cycle, and of course I'll give some higher carb food if I think she's going a bit too low.

This has given me confidence to shoot some pretty low numbers - with lots of testing data, now I have no problem shooting anything over 50. Of course you do need to monitor carefully, but since you already know how to home test it will be nothing new to you. I know you really want to make this work, so I just wanted to try to give you a bit more confidence at trying to shot some of the lower numbers. All the best to Bagheera!

Hi, Amy. My human is willing to shoot lower when he is around, but he is really nervous if he isn't going to be around for most of the day. Then he is worried, well, if I go hypoglycemic on him, and he is not there to take care of me, I could get very sick and my condition could deteriorate very rapidly without him being around to do anything about it.

He has gotten a lot better. Before, he felt nervous shooting at anything below 200. Now he wants to see three digits or rising numbers in order to shoot me and he is okay with that.

The human is happy with the numbers we saw today. If the data from the evening shot is any indicator of what is happening during the day, then while I am higher than we want although not at that evil 300 number, I am spending a lot of my day below 200 on the blood sugar reading. He is okay with that. And he is going to give me a tiny bit more than 6 units for a while and hold it there. It looks like 6.5 caused some crazy fluctuations, so he is thinking just a tiny little bit more than 6 units will be okay. But he is open to adjusting things if it doesn't look that way.
