Ah, nothing says Good Morning like a  number and "no thanks, I'm not hungry"! Sure got mamaLizbean's attention! After persistent food pushing (and a tiny tad of appy stimulant), all is good. nailbite_smile

AMPS 89, 10th cycle @1.25u, 2/3PP, 1mg ondansetron, 1/8 Zantac, 1/16 cypro, 1/8PP, 1.0oz 10%
+1 119, 1.05oz 10%, 7 drops kidney liq
+2 140, 0.75oz 10%

Last night Zener came in and was wobbly and falling a lot. We were a little worried and as I tested him I got a big glop of pine pitch on my hand. The poor guy's back leg was covered in the sticky stuff and it was very distracting and annoying, causing him to try to shake it off and walk at the same time. Quite a challenge for our special guy. We tried antibacterial soap, then alcohol hand cleaner and still no luck. I pulled out the secret weapon - a small set of clippers (the one's my dad used to trim his nose hairs, why I've kept them all these years I didn't know, now I do!) and small cuticle scissors and we trimmed most of it out. Zener felt SO much better after we got that stuff mostly off.

Anyone have any secret remedies for removing pine pitch from kitty fur?

Happy Caturday and hope it is a good one for everyone!

Removing pine pitch from kittys' fur? Never heard of in HK!  We hardly see any tree inside the city. Dont understand how some organization graded HK is the best city to live in! Anyway this is a very small city where everything is very convenient; ie if you can afford :o

That trim off the pine pitch must be good, lovely numbers for Zener! But maybe he wanted to have the "green"? Silly boy, pine leaves do not look green!

Re: 7/7 Zener AMPS 89;+1 119;+2 140;+4 159

hm, re the pine pitch.. sounds nuts I know but WD40 works pretty well!

nice blue surfin' there Zener!

Re: 7/7 Zener AMPS 89;+1 119;+2 140;+4 159

I googled your question and got some possibilities: mayo, butter and salad oil were the safe products for Zener. I've never had the opt to need these for removing pine pitch and don't know if they work. He'll certainly be one slick kitty after using them. Hope you find something that works.

Hi Anne or Liz.....don't know who is here right now :-D
Sienne could probably help you, if you don't have him cleaned off by now.
Couple years ago, Gabby had icky on her, from a pain patch, after dental surgery...I don't remember what she used tho....sorry. Big help, huh?
I've heard of using mayo, oil, also, on human skin.

Wow, what a crazy cycle. Low at the beginning and high in the middle. That's what last night's cycle was like too. Looks like nadir was possibly at AMPS (or perhaps earlier while we were sleeping) and now up, up and away. Gosh, poor Mr Liver must be stressing again.
We shall see if Zener gets on the slide into PMPS.

@Pip - that WD40 is useful for lots of things. :-D Do you know what will work to wash off the WD40? He's a big licker so we'd want the WD off his fur after it does its magic.

@Tena - we have butter and salad oil, would never have thought of those. And if the big guy wants to groom afterward, he could lick to his heart's content.  on the slick kitty!

The trimming worked okay and he was very patient while we did it. I think it felt so much better getting that stuff off. The anti-bacterial soap foamed like crazy and we practically had to drench his leg in water to get it off his fur, but it did make trimming the leg hair much easier! ;-) Now, I understand why the woman who cuts my hair likes to get it wet first.

Hi Barb, it is confusing since both Liz and I post. Liz will type her name after the post and I just use our standard signature and don't type my name. Liz usually is on the mornings more and I'm on at night more. Thanks for letting me know about Sienne's previous experience with sticky stuff. I'll PM her and ask her. Woo hoooooo, using mayo and oil on human skin....sounds very kinky.

Hi Liz, pine pitch, none here either! I hope you were able to find a remedy to remove it. It looks like Zener is going up. Maybe he's givng permission for a poke free few hours.

ETA I'm sorry Anne; I just saw it was you who posted.

We got some ideas for making Zener slick even if it doesn't work on the pine tar! The big guy is already smooth like butter!

Ah, don't worry about it. It's no big thang! :-D

What Barb remembered was what I used to get a Fentanyl patch off after Gabby had a dental. There are a couple of options. The vet gave me some Avon Skin So Soft. It's ok -- I just can't stand the smell. Mineral oil is also possible. I suspect any oil-based product will work. Here's a link from eHow on removing sap from dog fur.

Thank you Sienne, the olive oil,or butter look promising. I am sure we will have another opportunity to try these!

Zener - Check that AMPS, lookin' good! Sorry about the pine pitch - YUCK!

Have a great evening -

Sunny yellow to start tonight, is a slide in Zener's future, will he choose dive or will this crazy cat get back on the trampoline? Stay tuned! ;-)

@Helen - ah, so no pine trees in HK?  on him trying to give us green with pine pitch. Pine leaves are called pine needles and we have heaps of them, a very dark green until they fall off and go brown. We spend a lot of time time in the spring and fall raking up the needles.

@Libby & Hershey too - Z had a lovely AMPS, slid down from blues all night, then up jumped the devil, but only to yellows! The pine pitch is gone but Zener has a very interesting haircut on his back leg. He doesn't seem to mind, just relieved to have the sticky stuff gone!

Poo patrol has been very lax   ;-) lately. The mighty Z has been using his LB. We are delighted he is able to get through the cat door into our garage where the "pee palace" is located. When he was at his worst with his FD and peripheral neuropathy, he couldn't use it and we had washable piddle pads around the house in low cut litter boxes with no litter. Our laundry demands have really decreased recently, but ketone testing can be a challenge. The poo patrol may have to schedule training sessions just to keep those spotting and excavation skills up to speed.

Hope everyone has a calm and drama-free Caturday night. cat_pet_icon

Re: 7/7 Zener PMPS 243;+1 240;+2 160

And it looks like Zener is taking the express elevator.

PMPS 243, 11th cycle @1.25u, 1PP, 1mg ondansetron, 1/8 Zantac, 1.35oz 10%, 1/32t Miralax
+1 240, 0.85oz 10%, 8 drops kidney liq.
+2 160, 0.8oz 10%, 1PP, 3mg Zobaline

We were wondering if this could be an active cycle as his +1 was almost the same as the PMPS. We never really know what to expect, Zener loves to surprise us!

Re: 7/7 Zener PMPS 243;+1 240;+2 160

So much for that calm and drama-free Caturday night. I hope Zener's appy is good, he might be getting extra snacks later. Why is it that Anne seems to be getting more of the fun cycles lately?

Re: 7/7 Zener PMPS 243;+1 240;+2 160

What a great day for Zener. Sorry I missed almost all of it.... And I know on the green amps, and the no appy. Been there lately with the food pushing... Mannie is not a big fan of that approach...

The big guy slowed it up to a nice blue surf, so it's ni ni LL. I-)

@Wendy - Liz is the morning person and I am the night person, so she does morning duty and I do night duty. It works out pretty equally, even though he is usually higher in the morning than in the evening. Looks like things have calmed down now, so dreamland here I come!

@Michelle & Mannie - that green AMPS was the only one we had today, and it was nice to see, though he could still slide down later tonight, who knows what will happen really. Mannie probably loves the food pushing as much as Zener does. Paws crossed treating the giardia helps. Liz reminded me tonight both of our kitties had it, but only Zener was symptomatic. And it was hard to get rid of it. She thinks there was some residual level but he stopped having symptoms.

Off to dreamland now, the farmer's market will come very early! @-) ~O) :YMSIGH:

aw, poor zener. goopy sticky leg, doesn't feel like eating - not the best way to start his day. looks like it got better.

even if you use something like mineral oil or butter to rid him of pitch in the future, i'd still want to wash it off. otherwise they both function as laxatives.

i should've never seen your comment about your dad's scissors that he used to trim his nose hairs. i am working working working to shed myself of my parents' things and trying to convince myself that i will never need those weirdo things like nose hair scissors - and here you are telling me that they can be useful. argh.

hope you are all sleeping like babies tonight! :YMHUG:

I guess the piney stickiness would have been a bit of a relief really, it must have given you guys a heart attack to see him walking like that, my heart was pounding when I started reading about it!!!

You did predict the slide, perhaps just a bit steeper than expected  some nice numbers though and yay for negative glucose
