Happy appy, snuggly, spunky, feisty, and anti-jinxes.

My Dad has made some baby steps forward....very baby steps, but it is something. He was consuming a FEW calories yesterday, and he was much more alert. I was reading about esophageal thrush yesterday and now I'm sure that THIS is why he couldn't swallow and his GERD symptoms returned - thus resulting in the severe anorexia that started the downward spiral. The thrush is clearing up, and so far the new culture of the abdominal fluid is negative (culture still has another day or so to go). I'm pretty upset that his oncologist never looked in my Dad's throat since apparently thrush is a common side effect of chemo.

We do have to set up hospice, though, because when he comes home (possibly today; tomorrow at the latest), we need all the help we can get, and you get more services from hospice than home health aids. He is still in very, very bad shape but since hospice is a "service", if he really continues to improve, we can actually disenroll even though the idea is you're signing up for your own death.

Gotta get moving...prayers to everyone here.

Amy

I'm glad Trixie is doing well so you don't have to worry about her. It's good to hear your dad is showing a little improvement. Sending prayers.

Baby steps are good! He will feel better once he's in his own home; I've been lucky enough to avoid hospital stays (except when I gave birth) my entire life but I don't know how anyone actually gets better in them! And maybe once he has home cooking instead of the yucky hospital food his appetite will get better.

Great news on your dad. Prayers and vines that he continues to improve. It's really sad that we find out more with google and tell the dr what it is than they find out themselves. Hopefully the hospice will just be short lived until he gets better. You will definitely need the help. ((((Amy))))

Baby steps are the way to improvement! When he is home, he will be happier and improve too. Hospice will help out so very very much Amy! And like you said, if he improves and hospice is no longer needed, one can always leave hospice and resume treatment. Prayers, hugs, and vines going your way always!

Morning Amy :coffee::coffee::coffee:

Looking GREAT Trixie! Keep up the good work.

Yay for baby steps. This is god to read. DH went through some of the thrush issues too. Never fun. I am sorry for the need for hospice setup, but if it gets you the help you need it is a good thing. Many continues vines for him.

Have a good day today. I hope all goes well.

Glad to hear that your dad is making baby steps, my DMIL had quite bad thrush when on chemo for BC, she went of her food during chemo too, no problems swallowing but she said everything tasted horrid.
Hope the Hospice gives your family the support you need for the time being and that you can disenroll when he is feeling better.
Sending vines and positive thoughts your families way.
Oh and scritches for sweet Trixie.:bighug::bighug::bighug:

I'm glad to hear there are some baby steps Amy. Thrush is horrible to deal with having experienced it myself. There are tabs they can give him to suck on that should help. It was a long while ago so can't recall the actual medicine name. Glad your going to enroll with Hospice, hopefully it is short term. Sending all the vines and prayers that can be mustered. :bighug::bighug:

Glad to hear that some progress is being made with DF. Good luck with all the paperwork and setting up Hospice for your Dad. Extra help is paramount at times like this .

Looking good Trixie!

Our home health care nurse says there is something called palliative care that gives the same help as hospice but is a step above. We haven't checked into it yet but you might want to ask. Prayers and vines.

I'm so glad he's making some progress. Baby steps always come first! That stinks about the thrush, but thank goodness it was finally caught and treated. Sending mega healing and appy vines.

Hospice provides amazing care and could be just the ticket. As he improves, discontinuing it and going back to treatment is definitely an option, so I'm glad you're getting that ball rolling. I think you all need the additional support it provides.

Miss Trixie, keep eating your fuds and taking your pills and giving Mama lots of love!

adding prayers.....
my dgm started out on hospice when I moved her to the nursing home and she "graduated " after improving and hasn't needed it for over a year now.....

Hi Amy, so glad to hear this news. I hope your dad will take a few more baby steps. Vines on the way.

Doin' good, Trixie!

Hugs, scritches,

Ella & Rusty
