WELL, that was a PMPS shocker! I was NOT expecting that value! I tested at normal time and it was 238, so I waited about 25 mins and got the 222. I know it is above the 200 value....so shot I did!

a tad nervous...but he ate a good meal and I know to test at +1 and +2...or is that too dramatic?

why did he drop allllllll day? just a cat I suppose.

a while back while searching all posts and comments I ran into a great post about how Lantus is best shot at a low number. it works best that way. it was super calming and informative...but I didn't save it. does this ring with anyone?

okay......thanks all

Looks like Tomcat was breaking out of his bounce today. Neko often gives me her lowest number at PS.

We often recommend testing at +1 and +2 if it's the lowest you've ever shot. You could do that if you want to see what his cycle looks like, but you're probably OK with just a +2 if you think that's too much. Below 150, it's definitely recommended. On the other hand, I don't see any +1's on your SS. Sometimes it's useful to know how much of a numbers bump they get from food.

I didn't save that post on shooting a low number, but it makes sense. The idea Lantus cycle is fairly flat. If the insulin doesn't have to do as much work to pull down the numbers the cycle will be flatter, and I'm sure the cat feels better not having those swings too.

BTW, a BG of 150 is the number on this board where we ask people to test, then post and ask for help before feeding/shooting.

I'm not sure who posted it -- it sounds like it was a Jill/Alex post, though.

Unlike many of the shorter acting insulins, Lantus is not a potent insulin. In other words, it doesn't yank numbers down. Instead, it's gentle and has a longer duration. If you're starting at a high number, it's harder for Lantus to "latch on" and bring the numbers down. As a result, when you're starting at a lower number, you hopefully end up with a characteristically flat Lantus curve.

That's the theory. Of course, our cats tend to do what they want and don't read the rule book.

I like your plan to get some early tests in. That's particularly important if you shot a dropping number.

Re: 7/7 Tomcat AMPS 326, +5=328,+7.5=287 PMPS 222 +1=279,+3=

Thanks guys!! good info.....I will try to get a few more numbers during a normal cycle so I know what to expect when he is becoming better regulated.

yes, I think that original post was a Jill/Alex post....but you answered it

anyway I got the +1 =279, +3=306

so much for that semi-panic

okay, so next time I won't ask for advice unless PS is 150 or lower then, sorry.....I will take my ? down.

got it
