Re: 7/7 Max AMPS 248

Decent start for the day for Max!

To answer your questions from yesterday...I would think it is possible that whatever vax the vet gave could certainly contribute to higher numbers. Either it had sugar in it (which is likely if it was orally administered), or the system irritation that follows vaxing could interfere with insulin absorption, or it was just stress from being at the vet. Hopefully the numbers will come down today and all will be well there.

As for the poking, I alternated ears with every test, and tried to move along the ear edge as well so I wasn't poking in the same spot. My Max definitely reacted when I poked him in a spot that hadn't fully healed from a previous test. Not a major reaction, but he would squeak at me a bit and flinch. On nights when his numbers were low and I had to test frequently (every 15-20 minutes) to keep an eye on things, I definitely made sure to move along the edge of his ear and alternate ears...poking too many times in the same spot could lead to more bleeding than necessary, and bruising.

Without knowing what vaccines were administered -- especially the paste -- it's hard to answer your question. If you call the vet's office and ask what it was, either they or we can look up the ingredients. It's amazing how clueless a vet can be about giving a drug that effects BG. I had an argument with one of the vets at the practice I use because she prescribed a probiotic that had sugar in it. She felt the sugar content was small so it wouldn't matter. I asked if she thought it would be wise to give a diabetic child a tablespoon of ice cream x2/day. She responded, "Point well taken." People have reactions to vaccines. Sometimes a slight fever, etc. It may be the same with Max and what he was administered yesterday and if this is the case, his BG may rise. It should come down in a day.

I test on the same ear. I may move the actual spot a bit but it's the same ear. Once you start poking, the ear bleeds better, probably because the capillaries are regenerating. It's not been a problem and Gabby doesn't seem to mind -- and I test a lot!

Re: 7/7 Max AMPS 248

Sienne, Mindy, Pat & Lisa,

Thanks so much for your help in monitoring my Max & the well wishing. I'm home today with a migraine, & typing is loud. Short posts- will do a +6 soon. Especially appreciated your experiences with ear pricking. Max doesn't seem to mind, in fact, he doesn't like us to touch his other ear, but he does bleed quite a bit on occasion. I'll see if he's let me switch it up to give his ear a rest.

Holly
