Max went for an echocardiogram/cardiology visit this morning at NCSU. I’m please to report that there have been no major changes in his heart since a year ago. He has a mildly thickened left ventricle and mildly enlarged left atrium. These findings were present last year and there has been little change. The ecg however, showed a few vpc’s (same as a pvc for humans). The vet said these were not seen last year, but can be caused by anxiety, high blood pressure, or HCM. He said since there were only a few and his heart’s pumping ability was overall good, he was leaning towards anxiety but would be checked again next year. His blood pressure was still high today (170) so he will follow up with his general vet for recheck and med adjustments.

I am still a little concerned about the vpc’s when he threw the word HCM out there, but I also know Max was anxious during his visit. Hopefully it’s not anything leading towards HCM. I gave him Gabapentin this morning to help some with the anxiety and they did not have to sedate him. He cooperated well.

The cardiology vet said he was happy to see a cat who had so much going on but was so well taken care of. They also kept saying how well behaved Max was. I’m quite proud of my boy and I’m so thankful that we had an overall good cardio visit today. Thanks for the well wishes. :bighug:

His BG isn’t good today, so he will need that increase if we don’t see any action by tomorrow morning.
