Maggie is in a good, playful mood. I did a +9 when we got up, and her ear was difficult to prick, even with warming. So I finally her ear gave me a big drop of blood, and I thought maybe a big drop affected the bg. But just now with her AMPS her bg read 143, so it's most likely correct. However, (now don't shoot me for doing this), I also was able to use the same drop with the Relion meter, and her bg was 87, a difference of 56 bg points, which is a big difference. Now the reason I used both meters is that after using up the Alpha Trak strips, I am going to switch to a human meter, as it's just getting too expensive. Also, the strips are difficult to get thru my Vet. I can get them thru Amazon.com, but with shipping they prove to be more expensive than thru the Vet. I'm not sure if I want to use this Relion or another meter, thus the reason for comparing two meters.

Nice AMPS for Maggie. WOW on the meter - what a variance. But I do hear ya on the strips, and the costs... Good luck with it all.

Re: 7/5 Ann & Maggie AMPS 143

Wow - that's too big of a difference between the 2 meters! Really makes me wonder what my One touch mini would read! But then again - there are certain batches of test strips I've gotten that seem to read a little higher (the ones with expiration dates of 6/2011 always read a little higher than any of the others, for example!).

I've had such trouble getting blood from Kasha's ears this weekend. Usually - it's no problem. Even in the winter, when her ears are all cold, I can just rub them with my fingers (she loves that!) and warm them up enough to get a decent drop. But, this morning again - I had to poke her several times...

Just now though, her ear was super warm from sleeping on it - so no trouble getting her +3 drop!

Morning Ann & Maggie! Glad Maggie was playful this morning...hope you have a good day....

(my problem with using two different brands of meters is that you are always left with a big question. Which one is correct? So, if using two to compare would solve anything, I would probably be using three! LOL! There is meter variance even with two of the same brand~~SOOooo~~that is my problem with double-checking all the time. Not only is it a waste of strips, BUT you don't know more than you did before. You are put in a situation where you are spinning your wheels. Right?

I bought another Reli-On micro meter and compared the two during the past few days. Same brand = different readings. But they are not wildly different as was the original Contour that I had previously. I opted to use the Reli-on because it was giving me lower readings and than the Contour when Raja was going low, I wanted to err on the side of caution with <100 numbers.

So, instead of buying a new battery, I bought a new meter....just in case I needed a backup for whatever reason. But using two to compare never gave me an answer. It always gave me another question! And since I have too many of those to begin with, I decided to stop confusing my day. That's my opinion. My HUMBLE opinion!)

But, you are curious so you compare. That's fine if you do that. No one will shoot you...

Tray's ears have been hard to get blood from too...weird. But you're getting excellent readings from Maggie, she's doing great!

Maggie is having a nice surf day. I will be taking a trip in about 10 days and will be gone six days and wonder what dose I should have her pet sitter give her. There is hardly any light on the first line with the dose I am now giving Mags. I should probably buy an auto feeder, too. I will be so worried about her the whole time but I have to make this trip.

Hi Ann, Maggie looks really good today. I don't have a comment on the meters except to pick one and stick with it. Sometimes the strips are weird. Sometimes I test my 2 meters on myself, just to see. I think every time I have done this the results were within the margin of error.
I think the dosing advisers might suggest that the pet sitter give a somewhat smaller dose when you are away, just to keep Maggie in safe numbers.
Stu will see Maggie at the party tonight.

Ella
