Having lots of trouble getting any consistency with his numbers. I really don't see how to fine tune the insulin amount below .5 units. When I draw up water to.25 U sometimes I get 1drop, sometimes 2 drops. @ 0.5 U I get 2 to 3. Yes checking for bubbles. This is when I'm holding syringe up and expelling drops. Sure that it's even more inconsistent when drawing out of pen and injecting. Seems to average about 1 drop to 0.5 U. Advise please and thank you. When I was trying to do such small numbers I'm not sure he was getting anything to speak of.
 
Hi Patty, When doing such small doses, the consistency of the printing of the lines on the syringe becomes crucial. Often I find with the BD Ultra syringes I use that the "zero" line is printed so far off that there's at least .25-.5 units extra. That might be why you're finding the drops you're getting out to be inconsistent. I would try getting calipers. They were very helpful to me in getting .25 units. Getting any smaller than that, I eyeballed it after knowing exactly what .25 units measured out to. I've spent a lot of time giving Ruby the .25 dose, so I understand your frustration!

will see if I can figure this out watching the video. Have to check if the calipers I have will work. Trying to regulate on doses of .5 and under is a challenge. I am almost certain some of the wide swings are more to do with dosing error. Thanks.
 
It might not necessarily be about the dose. Tigger might simply be bouncing from experiencing numbers lower than what he is used to. I would try to get a +2 or +3 test in every cycle. There are days when you're not getting a test in the PM cycle at all, and he might be going lower as cats tend to do at night. Tests early in the cycle will tell you if it will be an active one or not and you'll know if you need to test more.
 
I have analog calipers, will get digital later. A question, when she explains the "ring" at the top of syringe is she referring to the physical hard part of the barrel where it indents, that part of my Sam's Club 0.3 syringes is off the marked line significantly. Probably closer to 1 Unit than .25 or 0.5 U. I though I had been giving. I know the number is not really important as long as actual insulin volume is consistent.

The ring is the stopper at the top of the syringe where the barrel stops when pushed all the way.
