I thought I might be seeing a blue in the PM cycle, but it's not there. Maybe this cycle will have some. Its the 4th cycle for this dose.

I admit that I'm concerned having to increase pretty steadily, but realize we are only into this about 6 weeks now, which is pretty early in the dance.

At least if I need to increase again after the 6th cycle, I'll be home to monitor and won't have to wait extra to do it.

I'm also wondering how much his inhaled steroid is really affecting his BG numbers.

Happy 4th to all the USA folks....and peace and safe surfs to the kitties, especially when the fireworks start.

Re: 7/4 Poe AMPS 311

Morning Karen,
I hope there's a nice slide down to blue for you and Poe today. I'm with you on the increases... Used to drive me around the bend (a scarey bend!) until we finally got to a dose where ollie started to "get with the program". It will come. try not to be too nervous. There are lots of smart people here keeping an eye on you and Poe. ..and all the rest of us also.
Have a fun day. lots of hugs and scritches

Re: 7/4 Poe AMPS 311 +2 315

I'm hoping for a smooth slide down too...next test will be +6 as he seems to have a quiet cycle going again. I just wish I could get the cycles quiet down in the blues :-D

I am pretty sure it has to be this steroid having an affect. Can someone direct me to info on diabetic cats with asthma too?

Re: 7/4 Poe AMPS 311 +2 315

Morning Karen,
I hope Poe comes down and visits the blues for you today.

Mary is right about there being so many knowledgable people here to guide you. But, it is hard to not see the results we want. I don't have any help for the inhaled steroids. I hope someone posts with some suggestions about that for you.

Hope you and Poe have a safe, happy 4th of July :-D

Karen,
I'm sorry, I forgot Poe has asthma. I think Melissa's Tarragon has asthma, she might be able to give you some input. Also Marje. Ella's Rusty is on Allerplex to help his breathing. You might put "asthma" in your subject line with your ?
Sending lots of healing and good numbers vines your way.

Hi :-D I know you have probably read this a gazillion times, but: patience, patience, patience (wanna borrow my patience pants?) Don't be concerned about the increases--nothing abnormal or quick about those increases. And Poe's numbers are not that bad; not normal, but I've seen kitties WAY higher who have been on insulin for a much, much longer time. Karen, you summed it up best with "we are only...6 weeks now". Hang in there--you're doing a fab job

Karen --

I don't know if there's a post here on FDMB that discusses asthma, steroids, and FD. The bottom line is that oral and injectible steroids can cause a rise in BG which can make diabetes management challenging. Inhaled steroids (e.g., via an aerokat inhaler) do not have the same systemic effect.

I would suggest posting both here and on Health with your question but specify that you're wanting information re. asthma. Contacting Melissa/Tarragon is a good idea. Ella and Marje use Allerplex for allergies and not asthma. Allerplex is not a steroid.

There have been any number of kitties here who need steriods for asthma, IBD or other problems. While the steroid may make things more challenging, the good news is you can always adjust the insulin dose to compensate.

Thank you. Yes, I use Flovent with the AeroKat chamber, have gone down to 1 puff a day in the AM. It's good to know that this method does not affect his BS as much as I thought it might, especially if my vet advises to stop the Flovent. I am going to put a call into her and see if we need to continue that.
