Last condo - vet results

So Boots was back to the vet on Friday morning for semi-fasted (9 hours) bloodwork to go off to Texas A&M to check his B9, B12, and pancreas function. I expect results hopefully by Thursday of this week, so we'll see what they show us.

His appetite's been a little flaky lately, and he has vomited a couple times, starting the Friday morning of his vet visit, actually (before the visit). He puked twice today - once a small hairball (he very rarely has hairballs) and then just some clear liquid about 2 hours later. He seems to have kept his breakfast down though, but his appetite wasn't great. We checked on him at lunch, so hopefully he keeps that down too. I think he's having a flare because his numbers have also been trending higher at a consistent Lantus dose. We did start him on Cerenia the other day. Today's pilling didn't go well (we put it in a tiny blob of food, but today he got wise to it and kept spitting it out, so we're not sure how much of it actually got into him through dissolving in the food). We'll keep him on it a couple more days, at least, to see if these numbers and the vomiting passes soon.

He's also been hit or miss with the litterbox. I guess this is just the new normal for him? The other night was particularly strange behavior - he went into the laundry room (currently 3 boxes in there to choose from) and we followed him in, and he was a bit vocal and seemed somewhat agitated, but wouldn't go to the bathroom, and then left the room. He went back in, and this behavior repeated with us following him in probably 4-5 more times. It was clear to us he had to go, but wasn't for some reason. So the final time, we gave him more of a head start then quietly snuck over to peek in the door, and he had just started peeing against the wall, right in front of the box (a spot he's hit before). It almost seemed like he knew he was going to pee out of the box and knew that was wrong, so he was waiting for us to not be in there with him. I could be reading way too much into it though, but that's the impression I was left with. Poor guy, I just wish I could help if the reason is that something's not feeling well or hurting.

Hope everyone's having a good day. Beautiful today, here in NJ!

Usually is a reason for the to pee outside of the box, if it's not a UTI it could be the litter itself. Even when Marvin UTI was cleared up he wouldn't use the litter box, turn out to be his neuropathy, he just can't climb in and out of the box. So I use a tray instead (cover of a plastic bin) so he can just walk in and out. That worked. So if your baby has arthritis or neuropathy that maybe the issue. I need to get a jigsaw so I can cut one of the sides of one of his many regular litter boxes so I can at least have two.

Have you ever tried gelcaps for pilling? They can hide the flavour and I have heard Cerenia has a bad taste. I used the duck and pea allergy free pill pockets for quite a while, but eventually Neko got tired of them.

Wow, I didn't actually realize pill pockets came in different kinds. Shows what I know. We haven't tried gelcaps, the idea of using a pill syringe freaks me out - I hate shoving stuff in their mouths. We've had luck this week putting the pill in a glob of Fancy Feast then rolling that tiny meatball in freeze dried chicken dust. We keep that small so he basically eats the whole thing in one bite, and then immediately shove his normal plate of food under his face in case he tastes the cerenia at all... a little something to wash it down, so to speak.
