7/30 Butternut PMPS=251 +1=298 +2=275

Whoa, he just whiffed pink with a 299. If his AM pattern sticks........ :stop::stop::stop:

Butternut, I said NO PINK today.

On occasion I've noticed Nut's poops are dry as toast and crumbly, not like a normal -but -drier raw kitty's poop. I've mentioned it to my vet more than once (and chronically ask about dehydration) but didn't really get a response about it. His poops are dry-ish now, not nearly as bad as the crumbly dehydrated log, but he still works to get them out and even having to make multiple attempts. I'd like to improve that if possible.

He loves pumpkin :cat: and I've read people here use it for constipation. Will it jack his bg at all if I give him some? He's doing well and I don't want to mess it up for him but at the same time it should be easier for him to relieve himself.

I do add water to each meal.

And green!!!!!!! Pure pumpkin is just fine. Start with 1/4 tsp per day and see if that helps. It might take a few days. I buy in the big can and freeze in ice cube tray then put in ziplock baggie. Take out as needed. I have a bunch of mini plastic container and put one in when I need it. One cube lasted 1-2 days. Mix in one of the main meals.

I don’t know if any of these help with dry poop but you can try adding probiotics. I used florastor and put about 1/4 cap in a meal. I don’t do it everyday but sometimes just to help with his gut. There’s also Slippery Elm Bark that is supposed to do wonders for the gut as well.

It’s just always good to give probiotics whether or not kitty has gut issues.

One toe in the green. :D Probably popped up due to food I gave at +5.5. All good though. It's amazing to see it happen and so soon after starting Levemir. :joyful:

Butternut is looking AMAZING today!!

I noticed when Mowgli switched to wet food his poo's got more and more dry, right now they are ok but when i notice it I give him 1/4 tsp BID of clearlax (same as miralax in the US) in his food to help things along :) I got the tip here on the board :)

less dry poo vines for Butternut :P

:pHappy dance for Butternut. :bighug: He's 18 so what I am witnessing is awesome. I'm going to become delirious if these nights keep up though.

I saw Miralax, Clearlax, Restoralax, all mentioned in different threads and see WallyWorld has some offerings if needed. Pumpkin first! Nom Nom.

Are you adding water fo Butternut's food? Adding water may help. Cat's typically do not have much of a thirst drive which is why canned food is so much better for them than dry food/kibble. Also, you may want to see about using a pet water fountain. Some cats truly prefer if they drink from moving water.

Nice cycle today. Love how he ditched the bounce quickly.

Sorry I haven’t seen all your posts, but have you said which type of raw you are feeding? Raw food with a higher proportion of bone can be more constipating. Raw with eggshell calcium can be easier on the GI system, plus is lower phosphorus. I tried to alternate raw with or without bone. Then switched to just eggshell calcium raw food when Neko was diagnosed with CKD.

I just found a thread today where you discuss the eggshell calcium. He's on Dr Piersons raw and has been for years with canned interspersed, and now FF. He loves the raw so I wanted to stick with it and spoke to my vet about Phis-Bind. Her cut off phos number is 6 and he's 5.5 last lab work. Trying to be gentle re what gets changed and how quickly.

Lightening.... If I don't return it's coz I live in a place where 5 min of wind can = 24hrs+ of no power. booo. Glad the heat is leaving.
Will return to this.. need to test and close windows.

I love what I see from him today. so cool:cool:

Yes, I've visited Tanya's CKD site - mind boggling - and then sent the recommended IRIS phos levels to my vet and asked about Phos-Bind. She said her cut off is 6 but OK to start using Phos-Bind. I have it, just need to get started. I was concerned that it too could cause constipation, from what I've read about it anyway.
I wanted to stick with food he likes and use the binder - no worries about him eating then, not that it's a problem most of the time.
The more I read the more I feel I need to do for him, or should have done. So far so good though with insulin change and getting better and consistent numbers. That should spare his kidneys some insult. I'm elated he's doing so well and I can see he's becoming stronger in his legs and body. He wants a walk outside in the evening! :woot: One day at a time. Patience pants!
