7/3 Minnie PMPS 90

I hope the vets will be able to get Minnie to eat while you are away so her ketones will stay down. I think there is a better chance that they will than if she were at home where you wouldn’t know if it were Minnie or Sam who ate any missing food.

They probably won't deal with her attitude and shenanigans! They have a double cage but said if it's too close for comfort and there's catfighting, they should be able to put them in a separate cage. I'm not thrilled with this solution for them but it's definitely the best for me right now and they will be safe. I'm not so concerned about ketones (crossed paws) with her lower BG and not being ill...but this is brand new territory for me.

Oh yes. I forgot to say congratulations on No More UTI! I didn’t want to write on yesterday’s condo as I am wont to do.

I thought that Sam was staying home. Maybe they will both be too scared to fight? Or… they could turn on each other? Or…. They may actually end up comforting each other since the other cat will be the only familiar thing around? Many possibilities. It will be okay. I’ve had to board cats many a time. Now I have a pet sitter that will take care of my menagerie (no dogs by the way) and even last year took on two additional sets of foster kittens (7 extras). And the place is not a wreck when I get home (I once had a sitter who apparently didn’t know how to use a broom or a Dust Buster or anything). She never had to do insulin though. I took Darcy with me when we traveled. He was going to go with us when we go to the cabin in July. He had such a good time last November. Sigh. I guess we could take someone else with us, but we probably won’t. This year we lost Julius and Darcy both and they were the traveling cats (not sure others could handle it so well). Did you see my reply about where we lived in England? I figured you were sleep deprived and missed it!

And I don’t mean to make you anxious about those possibilities. There’s more chance they will be okay together than not and, as you said, they can separate them.

whoopsie, haven't been on here this afternoon (after watching England beat Ukraine :)). Been dealing with a bunch of depressing paperwork since then.
News! I emailed the vet about shot times, and the kennel manager called back...as I suspected, they can't do them 12h apart. I explained how I was concerned that if it was early it acts like an increase and she might go hypo overnight and he said he does in-home pet-sitting! So that problem is vamoosed (new issue about tidying up but minor detail). I didn't see the point in having one at home and one boarding, twice the cost... I really don't know how they'd be in a tight space. I tend to think you're right, they'd probably get on. When I first adopted them they would sleep cuddled up together but not anymore - though recently in the heat they have been sleeping nearer each other. She is such a brat though, will rush to sit in whatever spot he is aiming for and gives him a swipe just for walking by. And he steals her food. Kids!

I'm sad with you about travelling without kitties, these things make the pain a little sharper don't they? Might be an adventure to introduce one of the others to travelling maybe? Even if they yowl and hate it, it might create some new amusing memories. Are you keeping Tinkerbelle or was she just a foster and adopted out?

I did see your reply and then you're right about sleep deprivation, I had a LOT to say and have been meaning to come back with a longer reply. I used to live in Ealing, right up the road from Twickenham!

Dosing question. How do I know we aren't missing the right dose if it's 5.25u?

I know it's too early on this dose to see where it's going, looking to me like the depot was in play for 3 cycles and now she's sitting in blue. I couldn't sustain the 5.5u either. Just curious really.

Also early question about the pet-sitter, starting Thursday. I am wondering it the vacation dose would be 4.5 or 5 (obviously depends on the next few days). I don't want to mess around with asking him to do 0.25u dosing.

I guess you can always increase to 5.25U if you want her nadirs a little lower.

Going to tag @tiffmaxee and @Wendy&Neko for the vacation dose.

It's great you finally found a petsitter! :-) Just check the syringes and give him one where the plunger aligns with the zero mark when fully pushed. (Do you use callipers?)

A few thoughts about the petsitter...

  • I'd have him come over enough in advance (like at least a day) so you don't feel rushed providing instructions.
  • Have a used syringe around and make sure he can draw up the dose correctly. (I know this is a person from the vet's office but stupid things happen.)
  • When I first use a new petsitter, I make up a sample syringe that has the dose drawn up using a colored liquid
  • Even with my usual petsitter, I leave obsessively copious instructions (e.g., where the extra litter, syringes, treats, etc. is, cleaning supplies, where I'll be and how to reach me via phone, email, etc.)
I would drop the dose to 4.5u.

You try it next, when you are back. Cats differ in how sensitive they are to small dose changes. After six cycles, the larger depot should be gone and you'll be seeing what 5.0 units can do.
