Ok so gave Doogle a 1u shot at shot time. It is now 2hours later and he is at 207. Should I try and syringe feed a little more? I am using a 1/2 ounce syringe (15 ml).

Yes. Obviously, he's not in dangerously low numbers but he needs food. It will help with the ketones. I also just posted this in your other condo.

What about getting a prescription for Max Cal?

Also, your vet is wrong. Mirtazepine is an SNRI (serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor), cyproheptadine is an antihistamine, and diazepam is a benzodiazepine. They are entirely different classes of medication and work on different neurotransmitter systems. (And if he doesn't believe you, he can look it up on Wikipedia (let alone a pharmacology text). This is the section on appetite stimulants from Tanya's website for CKD. It's a good summary.

If your vet doesn't have a clue why Doogle isn't eating, did he suggest a consultation with an internal medicine vet?

If Doogle is developing ketones, it's essential that you get insulin into him. Obviously, that means food, as well. Ketones result from not enough insulin, not eating, and an infection/inflammation. Just out of curiosity, did the vet check Doogle's teeth. Is it possible that a dental issue is causing Doogle to not eat?

I dont know why he gave me this. I am going to push for the other in the morning. This I think is making him more sleepy. It looks like he wants to fall asleep in the water bowl! Should I try and feed a little higher carb than usual (something under 10 but above 5). He hasnt suggested it but if he isnt better by the end of Sunday, I will be going to a fantastic diagnostician. It may cost me a little more but I dont care. I lost my job just over a month ago but if I have to pull from my IRA early I will.

Please check for ketones as often as you can. More than trace levels can quickly become an emergency.

I will try and catch him when he goes. He isnt going a whole lot. He did about an hour after we got home but not since then.

I'm so sorry to hear Doogle is so sick. If you get the labs, I would ove to peek at them for you. Sometimes numbers are in the normal range but the normal range includes kittens...as an example. Let me k ow if you have any questions about giving fluids.

Hope he feels better each day!

Thank you Marje!! I have watched and rewatched the video and luckily the DH knows how to give fluids, so I am at least blessed on that. As soon as I have the labs, I will post them here! :YMHUG:
