Here's Izzys 7/24 Condo.

I thought you were going to take her dose up to 1.25u? Or are you waiting to see this weekend what her daytime numbers might be?

I think it's more helpful to try and get spot tests. If there is any way to get an out the door and in the door tests when you are working and a before bed test, it gives you some idea of what they are doing. Then you can test more on weekends.

On Izzys CKD, I'd try to get some bloodwork done...a superchem and the WBCs, rbcs, HCT, HGB, etc. I'm concerned her BUN and creat are so high....her P could be as well.

Are you giving fluids at home every day?

Marje

I will have to look. She was in for a regular visit just before her diabetic crisis. The 5/27 recheck of glucose was done because of the results of her labs...so...I am missing a set. IF t's not in the other house I will have to obtain another copy.

She has had CRF for over 3 years now. She has never been on a CRF diet due to her corn, wheat and soy allergies. She has been eating Now Grain Free and canned, Fancy Feast, Sheba and Friskies Pates. As of her last visit with the full blookwork, they did not indicate she was anemic nor ready for phosphorus. binders. She gets SubQs every 2-3 days, 50-100ml depending on her hydration and patience.

I took her dose up a teensy bit. I normally fill the syringe to where the top of the black stopper is at the top of the black mark of 1 unit. I am now filling teh syringe where the black mark is at the bottom of that mark. I don't want to take her up too much when I cannot be home to monitor her.

Her amps IS my out the door reading. I am up by 5:15 am every day. I feed 3 horses, the dog, get ready for work ,check her glucose, feed her and my other 2 cats, shoot her and leave for work by 6:30am.

Her pm read...If I am home by 4 I will do an in the door reading. If am home closer to 5-5:15, I ususally wait until her pmps. I do a before bedtime reading everynight...unsually either 9:30 or 10:30 pm depending on when I get to bed.

Thank you.

You MUST get her on a binder right away. You really need to get that phosphorus level down ASAP. And yes, you were correct in your PM that her P x Ca exceed 70...but just barely.

I would get Dr. Lisa's Phosphorus Charts we linked the other day and I would get the lowest ones you can find that do not have any of the products she is allergic to. Then find the ones low in carbs. You want to shoot for less than 200 mg P per 100 calories or less than 1% P on a dry matter basis. If you can't find any lower that she can have, get as close as you can. But if you get your vet to prescribe an aluminum hydroxide binder, that is best of all. Phosphorus control is KEY to them staying stable with CKD and you don't want to play catch up.

You can get aluminum hydroxide cheapest at thrivingpets.com. You just sprinkle it on the food, mix, let it sit a minute, and then give it to her. It binds the P in the food so don't give it directly to Izzy. I would read and reread The Importance of Phosphorus Control on Tanya's website. GREAT STUFF! Alot of vets miss this because the lab ranges show normal up to 8 or so; but that includes kittens and kittens always have higher P levels as they are making bone. As you have on one of the SSs, you should be shooting for 4. Gussie is starting his fourth year of CKD and his P is 4.4.

I also think you need to be doing subq fluids daily. It's better to do a small amount daily then to do a larger amount EOD.

If you don't have her on a methycobalamine supplement (Zobaline is good for FDs) PLUS a multi B like Jarrows B Right, you also should do that now. CKD cats pee alot of the vitamin B out and the methyl B12 and multi B help control anemia which is another really important factor. You want to keep the HCT up as long as you can; once it falls below 20%, they need erythropoetin stimulating agents and those come with their own issues. She will feel better longer if her P and anemia are under control. And if she gets fluids every day.

Have you had her blood pressure checked lately? They need to keep an eye on that. It is very common for CKD cats to have high BP. Gus has been on amlodipine (a low dose) for two years now....no side effects.

Let me know if you have questions and how I can help.

I ordered the binder from thriving pets tonight. It said I did not need a prescription for the powder, so that is what I ordered. She is on Zobaline. I will look at the foods, but so far the only thing she will eat is the FF, Sheba and Friskies. She will boycott and make herself sick. I have been through a regimen of syringe feeding a couple years ago...she goes off food, then she gets an upset stomach, then she won't eat. We get in a vicious circle. She has to have food out 24/7 or she will throw up bile in the middle of the night, which then makes her feel sick, then she goes off food and we get on the roller coaster again. So I leave out wet food 24/7 and throw a LOT away...or at least to the dog.

We have tried: Weruva (she will occassionally eat the solistic harvest sunrise brand which is weruva).

Wont touch:
Organix, EVO, Wellness, Merrick, Hi Tor, Precise. I have tried these numerous times and I end up giving them away. I have a bunch of merrick in the cabinet now...she won't touch it. Sniffs and walks away....and will go for dry given the option...which I have removed now by putting up high where Salem can climb and she cannot.
