Have a great day Sandy!I hope he gets some better numbers too.If he doesn’t see some better numbers today or tonight, it looks like he needs more insulin to me. If he does need the increase, it’s time to increase by 3u ((10-15% of current dose for an acro cat). That would have him at 32u.
Let’s see how he does today and tonight. He’s past six cycles from any bouncing but flat yellow sometimes can telegraph lower numbers.
He's feeling good, wanting to eat all the time. I think he's gained weight. I'd love a decrease in the dose. This is getting very expensive. I'll read up on cabergoline. I'm pretty sure my vet would prescribe it. Should I expect some symptoms with the tumor?I agree with Marje, time for an increase. Darn tumour!
How is Biscuits feeling and doing these days? Have you thought anything about trying cabergoline with your guy? Most of the people here who have tried it have noticed some reduction in dose and acro symptoms.

He is hungry all the time and gaining weight because he ha excess growth hormone in his system, think of the appetite of a growing teenage boy. Excess growth hormone causes soft tissue growth, bony growth and organ growth. Not all symptoms are the same for all acros. Soft tissue growth can cause noisy breath or snoring as there is growth in the throat. Neko eventually had gum growth which made it harder to eat, and early on tearing from growth on her tear ducts. Bony growth is more painful, a lot of acros get arthritis. Neko had bad arthritis and a bony growth on her jaw which thankfully was benign. I still had to get it removed by a dental specialist. Human acros report headaches from growth of their skull. Jaw growth and teeth separation can be a symptom. By far the worst of changes is organmegaly. Enlarged heart, thickening of the intestines, enlarged liver and kidneys are all symptoms I have seen. All of these changes are generally slow to appear. Anything you can do to slow them further or even reverse them for a while is good. The ultimate treatment is removal of the pituitary gland, but that is costly and done very few places needing a very skilled vet surgeon. Cabergoline is a new treatment with no long term data, but so far we have seen positive results in FDMB kitties.Should I expect some symptoms with the tumor?
Thanks. It's been while since he's seen the vet. He's had dark crusty eye discharge but vet said its a herpes thing. Biscuits won't eat the lysine chews the vet suggested for that. Maybe this tumor is kicking into high gear. I'LL increase in the morning . No matter what you do for treatment, the most important things are to manage blood sugar and treat any symptoms as they appear. Over time you may have to add pain management medications. Regular check ups by the vet, as well as blood work to monitor kidneys is a a good idea.
He has had a pot belly. Haven't noticed anything else. Going to take him for a vet visit.,thanksI can tell you Ollie's symptoms.
Most noticeable is the stridor. Also pot belly/bloat, headaches, major lethargy, funny walk though not neuropathy, super hunger.
With the cabergoline everything but the hunger has subsided. I feed her based on calories so she doesn't get to heavy. She has maintained 13 - 13 1/2 pounds now.
I get suspension cabergoline with almond oil base. Vet orders at a bit higher dose than what I use so I get larger quantity. One bottle lasts us 35-40 days. One thing vet agrees with us if her symptoms come back and continues non stop for 5 days I increase the cabergoline dose by 0.05 ml. She started at 0.6 ml and has been 0.85 for a few months now. The symptom I use to decide is the stridor. Her insulin was 8.75 and has been as low as 4.5 units. We are working between 5 and 5.5 units presently. When we started it I said I would give it one year. I wanted to make sure I gave it a fair chance. I think the most important thing to think about is what your expectations will be and to be realistic about them. I'm glad I use it for Ollie. She is more comfortable and I think happier.
