His numbers have been all over the place since we've been home from vacation.

He seems to be in good spirits, other than the constant meowing for food in the kitchen all day!

He usually gets half of a can of FF around 12am for his snack but last night he got a whole can and I wonder if that had anything to do with his high AMPS.

I have strips to test for ketones but am not sure what the best way to collect urine is. He spends a lot of time downstairs and his litter boxes are upstairs. Since starting the b12, his ability to get up stairs has really improved! He isn't using the bathroom as frequently as before.

Suggested methods:
  • put test strip into the urine stream as he's peeing
  • slip a shallow, long-handled spoon under his backside (my method - works great!)
  • cover his favourite are of the litter box with a double layer of plastic food wrap and poke a few indentations into it.

I bet Garth was glad to see you back home today.

I don't think his high number this morning was due to extra food - it doesn't impact blood sugars that much. It's more likely he got low last night, or lower than he was used to, and is bouncing today. We strongly recommend getting a test before every shot, to make sure it's safe to give insulin. I sometimes found that if Neko was desparate for food, that she was going low and that was my sign to give her a poke.
