After two days of mostly blues, a sprinkling of yellows and one lone pink, Pumbaa decided to "Paint It Black".

It's all my fault for mentioning on 7/22 how it looked like his bounces and dives were diminishing and his numbers were evening out. Pumbaa must have read over my shoulder and decided, as always, to contradict any observation I make based on his data, just to keep life interesting.

Oh well, my mantra today is, "They bounce until they don't."

And now we sit back and wait for the ugly bounce to clear before deciding about any dose change.

At least Pumbaa has been very active lately. Normally with high numbers he's very lethargic, but he was a wild boy this morning, racing all over the house, charging through the cube tunnel, etc. He didn't even stop eating this morning when I gave him his shot....and normally he stops eating and flounces away, and I have to grab him and try and entice him to eat some more after the shot.

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Which is worse, Black and Blue or flat pink?

In Chip's case on NPH he was bouncing blue to black three times a day and he got very mild neuropathy in the process. That cleared completely after just one lackluster pen of Lantus. And I've been watching him closely and still no hint of neuropathy today after two weeks of flat pink. So Black and Blue may be worse for Chip than flat pink. Antijinx of course.

On a completely different note, it seems like Pumbaa stalls out when you get back to 2.0 units? Maybe per the protocol you need to work back to 2.25 or even higher and sweat it out? You've said several times you'd rather be up all night than sit for days of these horrible numbers. Besides the one 38, his greens weren't really all that bad.

I'd sure take em. ;-)

Good question about which is worse. I think I would prefer the flat pink with some yellows thrown in, because you can always increase the dose and pray that he doesn't dive and bounce anymore.

To me, going from blue to black is like flooring the gas pedal and hitting 100 mph for one block, then jamming on the brakes when you come to the next stop sign. That's rough on a car, and on a little kitty body.

Right now, Pumbaa only had two days at 2.00U before he bounced. While he started the dose with a beautiful string of blues, that was before the shed was filled, and I'm hesitant about upping his dose right now since he hasn't cleared his bounce. While he did get more greens than ever before when he was at 2.25U, he was also bouncing more. I was so hoping that after the reduction to 1.50U he had evened out and wasn't going to bounce as bad anymore. *sigh*

I'm torn. Part of me says "move forward and increase the dose". The other part of me says, "hold until he clears the bounce and truly settles into this dose, with the shed filled, and gives you some accurate data".

I still have to really study that Roomp Rand protocol. Keep linking to it until I get there. There's another 2 x 4 to my head, as needed. *LMAO*

Ugh, hate those black numbers, but I have a soft, furr0y op[;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;'''ppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp b///
AHEM! furry black kitty who just got off my keyboard and lay down next to me. Awwwwww!

Hang in there, Suze. I have decided to try TR. I'm sick of the bouncing, and I am going to give it a shot if nothing else than to try to get him OTJ in order to make up for all the horrible numbers he's had over the last 6 months!

Dale:

Max types better than some people I know. *LOL*

Pumbaa took a dive last night and hit greens...I wish he would dive during the day 'cause these late nights are killing me.

Good luck with Max on TR! At some point, I just hope our bouncy boys stop bouncing!

You can't go on like this, Suze. How about giving him some carbs before bed? Really, sleep deprivation is very debilitating. If this is a long term pattern, maybe it's better if you try to avoid it that way? I don't know. I'm pretty new at this, too, but after having a baby, I know that your judgement can get pretty messed up, and your moods == everything== when you are up night after night. Not to mention that driving is harder. I hope you have time for daytime naps!

Dale, I would hate to mess with Pumbaa's numbers by giving him higher carbed food at night. I do, sometimes, try to nap in between his +3 and +6. Just did that now, and he's down to 78, so I'm sitting here typing to stay awake until I test him at +7 to make sure he's rising. The problem is that I never know when he's going to dive, and his nadir times have been all over the place lately so I can't rely on his going up after a +6.

One day he'll, hopefully, stop diving. Until then, I have in the back of my head what a wise person told me, and that is that it's okay to skip a shot and get a full night's sleep when you're exhausted.

Taking care of Emma and managing Max (another bouncer/diver) has to be exhausting for you as well. Somehow we'll both manage until our boys calm down. :)
