I have decided to do somewhat of a test on Panzer today. This morning a I gave him his AMPS shot in the spot where he has developed a Lantus pocket. In my last post I asked if the Lantus pocket goes away & I didn't really get an answer? Maybe know one knows? Anyways Panzer has had some really good cycles still some # s in the 200s but in one cycle he dropped to 56.I gave his shot on the left side of his scruff @ PMPS where there is no Lantus pocket & I have been giving it there for all of these beautiful cycles in blue & green that you will see in his spreadsheet. I did not test a whole lot for his AMPS cycle but everytime I did he was in the 200s except @ AMPS which he was close @197. Testing will begin @+4 & continue until +8 PMPS.

I do believe that the pancreatitis bout that Panzer had is over. When should I stop the medicines? I called the vet on Tuesday & asked for another prescription of ondansetron for Panzer but 30 pills this time instead of 14. I also asked for Cerenia for Panzer & Spook. I got a recorded call from the pharmacy on Wed saying Panzer's prescription was ready.I called the vet to see if the Cerenia was okay as well. They approved the Cerenia for Spook but not for Panzer. They said you aren't supposed to give ondansetron & Cerenia together, so they only gave me a box of Cerenia for Spook. There is also 6 refills on the ondansetron. Little do they know Spook is taking the ondansetron & Panzer is taking the Cerenia. The reason for this is it was causing more constipation for Panzer so I switched him back to the Cerenia. I also read that Cerenia helps with inflammation which I figured would help more with the pancreatitis.

So Panzer & Spook are getting mirtaz @+2 AMPS daily, Spook is getting ondansetron @ AMPS & PMPS & Panzer is getting Cerenia @ PMPS. This is there daily extra medicine that they are getting. They are both eating great (knock on wood) Spook is a little hesitant sometimes & has to be guided & have fortiflora sometimes but Panzer is eating like a champ! When should I stop these meds? We are on our third & final tube of mirtaz, just started on the new bottle of ondansetron & will start on the last box of Cerenia tomorrow @ PMPS. https://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/thr...-7-80-8-what-is-going-on.265914/#post-2977529

There are others here with more experience with pancreatitis than I have. At the time she was diagnosed with FD, Gabby had pancreatitis. She was on meds for a couple of weeks and then we stopped. She never had a recurrence.

As for the Lantus "pocket," I suspect the issue is more that if you have been injecting in roughly the same spot, there may be some thickening of the skin or other cause for less than ideal insulin absorption. Often, the advice is to rotate the injection site. That said, Gabby always got her insulin in roughly the same spot.

The insulin depot isn't like a big puddle of insulin. It's microcrystals that form in the fat cells. They are gradually absorbed over the course of a few cycles. It allows for what amounts to a steady state of insulin so you get those lovely flat curves. Compare the action of a depot insulin to the shorter acting insulins that are in and out in usually much less than 12 hours.

I think you have it figured out. It sounds like Panzer is recovered from his pancreatitis for sure. It’s good that you have lots of supplies though for any flare ups. Let me read yesterday’s thread about the pocket. I don’t think I have ever heard of that before. Scar tissue from injections… yes… but I will look to see what your description is like.

Sounds like scar tissue to me from the shots. Try to see if you can find a spot that’s still on the correct side of his body (I mean the side you can get to which I believe you said was the right side.). It doesn’t have to be really far away from where the scar tissue is, just a new spot where you can lift the skin enough to give the injection.
