So I've been reading behind the scenes and posting here and there. So wonderful to see the OTJ parties!
I do have a question...once a kitty is OTJ, is there a point where they would need to go back On the juice, depending on the BG readings of course. What would those numbers or range be? I'm guilty of taking only 2 readings since July 11th. I plan to do so more often.

I've not been here long either.
But as I understand it, an illness, infection or disease ( as they age) is highly likely to bring it back.
It depends a lot on how quickly it is diagnosed, the longer they have diabetes without any treatment harms them.

And certainly the wrong diet.

Carolyn:

If she starts giving you numbers above the normal range of 50-120, you should post and let us know. The earlier you catch it, the better and if we look at the numbers and think she might need a little support, we'll let you know. If they are just gradually climbing, sometimes even .1u for a short amount of time helps. But Wonton is not going to do that.

Remember: if you test and get a number you don't like, feed, and retest in three hours. If the number is normal, she's ok. Barbara's Tuffy does this all the time.....high but then her numbers come way down after she eats. Here's her SS: Tuffy's SS

Notice how she was 141 at AMBG on 12/8 and 32 at "+3". Tuffy

Hey, Carolyn!!

I certainly wouldn't base a decision on one or two tests. If you take a look at Mikey's SS, Mikey has been dealing with some health issues that necessitated that Jenn put him on prednisone. Mikey's numbers started creeping up. Jenn started shooting to offset the effect of the steroid. As Mikey's been weaned off of the pred, his numbers are coming back down. Mikey's numbers were outside of the normal range and staying there.

To my eyes, there needs to be a steady upward trend with numbers remaining mostly outside of the normal range. Generally, you want to see if numbers drop back down a couple of hours after a meal -- in other words, is the pancreas working.

Barbara's Tuffy's SS is a good example of a cat who's numbers can go all over the place but she's still OTJ. Tuffy can go from the 140s to the 40s in the same cycle. Tuffy is very sensitive to stress and it's reflected in her numbers. My point is that you need to see a trend vs. isolated numbers.

Obviously, issues such as illness, the need for a dental, contraband, etc. need to be ruled out.

ETA: Would you believe that Marje and I didn't discuss this? Two great minds and all that nonsense!!

Yes, Sienne and Marj are on the same wave length!
Thank you for your explanations...yes, I see how Tuffy's numbers are in the blues, then go down way in the greens, it looks like after she eats. I'll do more testing a few hours after Wonton eats so I can get a trend on her numbers so I'll know what to look for later on.
I totally agree, Rhiannon, about diet. I'm pretty certain that is what caused Wonton's diabetes.
Thanks again, hope it's a good Monday for everyone!

Hi there, i don't think we've stopped by before, just wanted to say hi and congrats to Wonton getting OTJ!
