Good Morning LL! Bouncy kitty this morning, I hope Tess doesn't come down quite as fast as yesterday. So the bungees need to go back to Mannie and I just hope she doesn't ask Stu for scuba lessons today. No Tour today so we got to sleep in (I can't believe that I'm calling 6:15 sleeping in ohmygod_smile ) Tess knew we were supposed to be up and feeding her though. She came in at 6:10 and sat on me until I got up.

WCR All 5 Ps again today having a bath now and waiting for breffis # two. The Feline Future raw is going over well.

Re: 7/21 Tess AMPS~308

HA HA! I hear you about the sleeping in. Today is my day off, I was thinking I would go BTB after shot this AM, but nooooo kitty wants to play.

Just a teeny bounce there for Tess, hope it clears quick. I mean her SS looks amazing though!
This new raw, where do you get it?

Re: 7/21 Tess AMPS~308

Tess!!! Enough with the bath, and the eating and stuff We are at Stu's - so hurry on over... You can eat here! See you! and - uhhhh - leave the pinks behind, but no scuba stuff. Stu's is missing - uh, you didn't borrow it last night did you? And I guess I had better come and get my bungees.... See you soon - we can eat and surf and cook and stuff! ~~ Mannie

ah - the bounce. I'm with you: clear, but no diving! And yeah - 6:15 would be sleeping in for me too. :?

Re: 7/21 Tess AMPS~308 +2~293

Out of the Pinks, though just barely. I wanted to make sure there were no sudden drops like yesterday. Hoping for a slower descent and staying there today.

Myla, Feline Future is a powdered mix you add to raw meat. You can just chop up some chicken, no grinder needed. I tried the Wild Kitty too, but that didn't go over nearly as well. http://www.feline-future.com/index.php?map=USA

Mannieeeee! I don't like it up here, meet you at Stu's as soon as I can get there. --Tess

Re: 7/21 Tess AMPS~308 +2~293

well at least she is in the yellows ... a nice slow drop would be best tess, so don't go acting all crazy young lady!

Ann, I checked out the link you posted, but I was wondering if all you feed tess is a 1/2 cup of food a day? How big is tess? I'm thinking our civvie might need to go to raw, she might possibly have food allergies but she eats more then a 1/2 cup of food a day and that might get pricey ...

Re: 7/21 Tess AMPS~308 +2~293

Hey there, Miss Tess, you look pretty in yellow, but you can come down, nice and slow today, okay. No drops like yesterday.

Re: 7/21 Tess AMPS~308 +2~293 +4~257

Looks like Tess will take her time coming down today. :-D As long as she keeps coming down. Fed her fourth breffis an hour late as she was sound asleep and she cleaned it up, and it was Wellness double :-D :-D !

Devon, I think cats eating raw eat less because they can actually make use of more of what they eat. At least I've read that there is less poo, so less waste. The premixes are a lot easier, but of course that means it will cost more. Here are a couple of sites http://catinfo.org/?link=makingcatfood and http://www.catnutrition.org/recipes.php w/ recipes for totally homemade, both with and without bones, although with bones is said to be better than adding a calcium supplement. There are a lot of other nutrients in bones than just calcium. You can get the supplements from health food stores or online,I think I calculated about $50 for a several months worth as opposed to a month and a half for the premixes.

But grinding your own w/ bones means a $180 investment in a grinder that can handle the bones, (you can order it ground w/ bones online, but again that jacks the price up, or if you have a really good butcher they may be willing to do a special grind for you w/ bones). I experimented w/ an old fashioned hand cranked grinder, believe me, don't go there!!

If I try to go totally raw I'll probably bite the bullet and by the grinder. I'd spend as much on the powder in 6months as the cost of the grinder. Right now we're spending about $30 to $50 a month on FF and Wellness, not counting what we have to throw out.

EDT  I goofed on the clculatons for the cost of the Feline Future powder. I was using the per batch, not per package and if you getthe big package it is even less. So, with the larger package about $50, it uses 20 lb of meat (chicken boneless/skinless thighs, $2/ lb., about $40, 2.5 lb. chicken liver, about $6) total comes to $96 for 3 months or $32 a month. Pretty much the same as FF. Making your own mix is still cheaper.

Re: 7/21 Tess AMPS~308 +2~293 +4~257

Hi Tess lets keep coming down nice and slow :-D I kept thinking about making my own raw but Do Lou eats all of his primal nuggets so there is no waste and its just so much easier to open a bag and thaw out what I need yeah I am lazy

Re: 7/21 Tess AMPS~308 +2~293 +4~257

I can't believe Tess was pink. :o But at least she's in her yellow dress now. I hope all the kitties have fun at Stu's.

Re: 7/21 Tess AMPS~308 +2~293 +4~257

tess thank you for the links. It is a lot of information to take. Right now it all seems a bit over my head and honestly I'm not sure I could do the whole homemade raw diet. I wonder if frozen raw is just as good?

Re: 7/21 Tess AMPS~308 +2~293 +4~257

nice to see Tess has found her way to the yellows, now lets see some blues Tess!

Re: 7/21 Tess AMPS~308 +2~293 +4~257

tess...doodles, meet me at the pier those cute boyz just texted me and they are on the way!!! it's ok we don't have our surf boards today, we can lay on the beach on
our pretty yellow towels, I know my bean prefers the green too. I have two blue boogie boards for us just incase we want to go in the water...! hope to see ya there bcatrun_gif

Ann, do you think that changing to raw for Tess helped? I think I have found a food that both like ohmygod_smile It's the FF Cod, Sole and Shrimp combo :-D 3 carbs and 85 cal. I have had
them on that for about a week now. Meaning I'm done being a short order cook for Gotti, Doodles seems to like anything  eeewwww she loved the raw chicken nibbles she got the other night.
So cute! She snorkled  I think you right about them not eating as much as the canned. I've noticed that if I feed FF chicken it will give her a higher food spike and with the fish she only seems
to jump 10 points. Who knows :-D

I hope to get back on schedule soon, this is nuts  My husband just shakes his head  I now live on cat naps   but he knows how much I luv my kidz and he is so supportive!

Re: 7/21 Tess AMPS~308 +2~293 +4~257

Lisa, I can't get the frozen anywhere near here or I would probably do it. I'm not sure I'd trust having it shipped.

Heidi, Tess isn't totally on raw yet. I'm taking it slowly. She is a picky eater, if I could get her to eat some of the better foods more often I'd go for Wellness or EVO. She won't eat EVO and it's iffy w/ Wellness. It's a texture thing I think, too mushy. From a lot I've read raw is the healthiest, don't really know the carbs though there isn't much in it that have carbs. You also have to give small meals because it shouldn't be left out too long.

I've also been told not to to feed fish too often even if they are really low carb, just once or twice a week, because of the heavy metals in seafood. Catch-22.

If it isn't one thing it's another.

Re: 7/21 Tess AMPS~308 +2~293 +4~257

Wow, feeding raw.. I'm not there yet!! maybe if I could get it frozen.. Frip will not eat Wellness  Grip even less, he sniffed and turned away, at least Frip took 1-2 bites.. I'll give it another try soon.... I was told only 1 serving of fish FF per day, hope it's ok.. they both like it so much..

Nice to see Tess is coming out the bounce... slowly... Frip is just doing the bungee thing lately.. I'm sure I'll see pink later tonight ohmygod_smile

Re: 7/21 Tess AMPS~308 +2~293 +4~257

This whole food thing is crazy!
Ya know my mom fed CJ tuna for 22 years evryday! I thought she was crazy...it even had bones in it ohmygod_smile I actually thought it was tuna that was bad all the time too? ECID
Doodles and Gotti must love fish cuz they live at the beach

I was doing some checking on the raw too, but it seemed like too much work :YMSIGH: And I wasn't really up on the poweders etc....

You'll love this  MIsty and Milo a few years back, (short history, I had a neighbor she cooked for her puppies and I felt guiilty at i didn't) and when that
awful recall with the dry food came out, I thought OK I'll start making their food. What the hell was I thinking ohmygod_smile
I cooked and measured hamburger meat lean of course, mixed with veggies and wheat pasta for crunchiness   What a hassle,
bagging and making two different bags marking their names for each...until one night my husband yells downstairs that the meat I'm using was just recalled
Yeah ok, i thought he was being a nerd iand nope he was right I had the bad meat!
Great they've already eaten 3 rolls ohmygod_smile I took back the rest and now they get dry food :-D They weren't happy when they saw kibbles

thanks for the info....doodles is yellow bound today it looks like, nice and slow.

Re: 7/21 Tess AMPS~308 PMPS~214

Tess has been listening today, this is the slowest drop in history, But she is steadily coming down. I guess decided to laze on the beach on the yellow towel.

 I goofed on the clculatons for the cost of the Feline Future powder. I was using the per batch, not per package and if you get the big package it is even less. So, with the larger package about $50, it uses 20 lb of meat (chicken boneless/skinless thighs, $2/ lb.) about $40, 2.5 lb. chicken liver, about $6 total comes to $96 for 3 months or $32 a month. Pretty much the same as FF. Making your own mix is still cheaper and meat with bones is best yet.

Re: 7/21 Tess AMPS~308 PMPS~214

Tess-
It was great to see you today! I had so much fun, I hope we can go back tomorrow! Don't drop too fast tonight or your bean might not let you go next time, ok? See you soon!
<3, Buzz

Re: 7/21 Tess AMPS~308 PMPS~214

I do the same -- grind my own skinless, boneless chicken and use the Feline Futures pre-mix. I freeze what I make up in 1/2 cup patties so I'm less concerned about bacterial contamination. My guys still get FF as snacks since that gets left in the feeder.
