A little high this morning, but I gave her extra food yesterday because she was very unusually hungry. Both cats were acting like they were starving just a couple hours after eating, which is not like them, so I went ahead and gave them extra since it's not normal. So, not surprised that she's up a little.

Hopefully DH can get a mid-day test today. I've done all the testing on her up until now, but he's trying to learn. He used 6 strips yesterday and couldn't get a good one. He's all scratched up and there's blood droplets all over our bedspread. I feel sorry for both of them, but I also went through that learning curve, so I know he needs to do it, too.

Re: 7/2 Mona AMPS-150

hi katie! Mona's off to a nice start this morning. she's not moving much with just the drop so far, but we'll give it enough cycles to see if it'll do more once the depot is filled.

i don't know if this would help your husband, but I tested punkin on the sofa with him in between my right leg and the arm of the sofa. He was somewhat trapped in there, although not tightly. we set all the testing equipment on the arm with the strip partway in the meter, but not all the way. It's a frustrating time when you're just starting out. Is he warming her ear first?

Re: 7/2 Mona AMPS-150

I actually suggested that same "couch" method to him last night since that's also how I started! I also had him practice using the strips on a drop of his own blood a few times because I think he was dipping them in a way that wasn't wicking up the strip correctly.

Fortunately she bleeds easily, so getting the bead isn't usually the problem, it's getting the strip in place without her wiggling away or flicking the drop off. The other cat also thinks pulling the strips out of the meter (and invalidating them that way) seems to be a delight, so I often have to fend her off while I'm doing it.

Welcome to LantusLand! Nice AMPS for Mona! It does take a while to get used to testing, but I'm sure DH will have it down in no time!!

I test Max in the bathroom sink. I have a picture of it but don't know how to download it here.

It's the perfect height for me. I thought he was going to be difficult to test because he was at the vet's the first day they gave him insulin and did a curve. But he has been pretty good for me. I started there and so continued.

Hi there, I haven't stopped in to say hello yet. Nice to see Mona start to show green on the drop of insulin.

Some people scrape the drop of blood onto their fingernail right away, then you don't have to worry about a wriggling cat while you are trying to position the meter.
