Helllllo Lantus Land!
Just popping in really quick to say "hi" and we're not dead. I miss you all so much and will start posting more regularly-ish soon-ish. It has been a nutty couple of months. First, we moved. Into a fixer-upper. A real DIY house. It's coming along beautifully, though. DH is so handy and good with stuff like that.
I'm teaching a couple of classes this summer and still plugging away at the thesis. This is my first time teaching over the summer, and I wasn't quite prepared for how much work it would be. It's a 6 week class, and I have two sections of 30 students each. I spend at least 4-5 hours a day grading and writing responses and stuff. Apart from the total time suck, I'm loving it. The students are sharp (maybe they're more motivated than regular semester students?) and have been producing some really good work. It's hard to believe that this term is almost over! August 2nd, and I have a mountain of grading to do still yuuuccckkk. Definitely the worst part of the job. Teaching is so much fun, but grading? Yeah. No.
I have a defense set up for next Thursday nailbite_smile It's not for the final thesis, just a couple of sections of it. I've been scrambling to get everything polished and approved by my director in time to send it out to the committee. Finally, today, I'm finally done! YIPPPPEEE! So now all I have to do is show up and talk about it and answer questions and stuff. Ugh. I figured to celebrate this rare reprieve from duty, I'd pop on really quick just to show some love on LL. That, and I need to order Kismet more test strips and I always go through Walmart on the site. Time for a PSA: Always do your shopping from FDMB! Rebecca gets a small commission every time you shop from one of the affiliate sites, so long as you enter through the boad.
So, that's pretty much where I've been. I wish my absence was the result of something far more interesting, like a summer trip to Europe, or getting kidnapped by a circus, but no. Just real life adult stuff. It's weird how adult-ness sneaks up on you. A couple of years ago, I was just a kid who spent her summers road tripping with friends, sleeping in late, and reading crappy novels. I waitressed 5 days a week and thought that was a lot of responsibility. Somehow, I've become a graduate student, an adjunct instructor (omg, they actually let me TEACH other people,) and a married person. Woah. I suppose the next logical step is to have a baby, but I think I want to sleep in every day for at least a month after I graduate. I can teach in the evening... And I have Kismet, who is my baby. But lately, this weird maternal thing has been happening. My two best childhood friends both have baby fever. One just got her M.D., and the other just got her MFA, and now they are plotting out our pregnancies as though we were planning a girl's night out. It's kind of scary. First of all, they live in different cities in different states. It's not like we can go to lamaze classes together and take junior on outings to the park. Their baby-craziness reminds me of that lifetime movie where the teen girls make a pregnancy pact. I jokingly told them that we should live together for a month to sync up our cycles so we could get pregnant at the exact same time. I was JOKING, but they thought it was a really good idea
So, no baby for me anytime soon. I figure my friends will start reproducing soon enough and I can get my baby fill by holding theirs for a little while. And the best part? I get to give them back
Hmm. I don't know how this got to this. I was just popping on to say hi really quick while I was on my way to the store (Walmart) and somehow I am talking about my quarter of a century crisis and babies. Guys, I've been working too much. This thesis stuff is intense. ohmygod_smile Well, it's 2 am and I've got to teach tomorrow morning, so I'm off!
Thank you to all of you who have sent me PMs, checked in on FB, or sent emails. I will respond to the PMs later
Have a great day/night, LL!
Lots of Love,
Courtney and Kismet
