7/18 Ben OTJ trial day 11 - AMBG NA, PMBG 90

PMBG is 90

Yesterday's vet apt could not do dentals since LIVER #'s too high. 3 lyft and 1 bus ride to and from dentist getting Ben home. Then 2 bus, 1 train, and too much walking for supplies, I did not get PMBG nor AMBG readings. I could not walk w/o pain when getting home. I gave Ben his new pill (DENAMARIN 1X/DAY) and fed after 2 hours since it has to be taken on empty stomach, 2 hours before or 2 hours after feeding.
That's a pain. But, momma will go through what it takes to help Ben.

I posted the CBC yesterday. WoW I now know feline CRF, feline Diabetes, and now on my way to feline liver disease. Thing I never thought I would have to learn.

I will call Aunt Karma DVM tomorrow and hope I can get him in with her. She is a friend from long ago and helped with Old Groovy Cat's renal failure treatment. I have not seen her in over 15 years.

The vet said with those numbers she would likely see jaundice, which she visually did not see.

Ben's got me a little freaked out. His liver numbers went high so fast, I am going in for an eye exam and a CBC on me.
His last CBC was 2 months ago and the liver numbers were ok

Dr Virginia's instructions: Give 1 tab every 24 hours on empty stomach, 2 hours before or after eating.

DENAMARIN web site: For optimal absorption, tablets should be given on an empty stomach, at least ONE HOUR before feeding, as the presence of food decreases the absorption of S-Adenosylmethionine. For those owners who have difficulty administering tablets to their pets, Denamarin tablet(s) may be disguised in a small bite of food. Studies have shown that, in many cases, tablets or capsules given as a "dry swallow" do not pass into the stomach in cats but may become lodged in the esophagus. It is recommended for pet owners to administer 3-6 cc of water immediately following any tablet administration to speed passage of the tablet into the stomach.

So, I will follow DENAMARIN's instructions and syringe 3-6 cc water to help.

3-6 cc water, really? I have a syringe that holds 1cc and I would have to give 3 or more OMG?!

Yes. This is all you need to do. Give him the pill and a small treat like you mentioned. I always did this with Darcy and Denamarin. If you give about one and a half cc of water it would be enough but a small treat will be much easier. The idea is to prevent esophageal irritation and injury from pills being stuck in there and not making their way all the way down into the stomach. When we people take pills we usually swallow them with water, but cats won’t naturally do that when you give them a pill. Hang in there.

Always, right? Okay I can pill fine but this one is extremely big. If I had to take one compared, I would call it a HORSE PILL. I saw a real elephant aspirin when I worked at the zoo, it was about 8 inches long, this one seems comparable with Ben's size - lol

I took some watermelon across the street to my wusband and his rabbit. I was invited fir a beer by our neighbor. Now it's 11:30 looks like I'm making it for the AMBG then sleep til the afternoon
