After starting the morning at 352 (I think he was still high after the partial fur shot at PM 7/15) he dropped to 240 for his PMPS, then took a very gentle walk down to 187 at PM +6. That was so much nicer than a dive! Even if he continued to drop after the +6, I doubt that he dropped lower than 100 if he continued to drop at the same slow rate.

I would have liked starting this morning with a yellow instead of a pink, but you can't always get what you wish for, right? And at least we didn't start with a red number, I'm thankful for that.

Praying for more gentle drops today and more blues.

Good to be back on track after all the drama with the syringes, the unscheduled holds, and the fur shot. :thumbup

I'm interested in the terumo syringes, but if you don't put together an order for $100 the shipping is a total deal killer. With free shipping they are cheaper than the Relions.

So Pumbaa and Chip are still in sync, and they both decided to have two good cycles in a row. dancing_cat dancing_cat

It's not hard to order $100 since the test strips are $70. :roll:

The Terumo syringes are a great price at $13.09 for 100. The Monojects were $14.89 for 100. And the UltiCare Vet Syringes were $10.69 for 60. We won't even talk about the Relions since I threw out so many of their poorly marked syringes and wasted a lot of insulin, to boot.

Thank you for the anti-jinx! I wouldn't mind at all if Pumbaa stayed blue for the rest of the day and night...and would love to see Chip drop down to blue again, too!

I've been using Terumo SubQ needles for almost a year now and they really are better than the Monoject needles. However $100 is a little steep just just to try out the syringes. I need some more Arkray test strips, but not sure I need 250 right now since I'm mostly using the Contour meter for testing.

I've been reading good things about the Arkray Vital meter. Those apparently very similar (need just a hair bigger drop of blood) test strips are $45.99 for 250. Everyone says they "sip" as easily as the more expensive relion variation.

The Bayer Contour meter does not sip as easily, so you always need a good drop of blood for it. Before every test I preload both meters and 90% of the time when I get a good drop of blood I use the Bayer Contour USB meter. And put the arkray test strip back. When I can't get a big enough drop of blood I use the relion meter since it works everytime. This way I waste fewer test strips to error.

Been thinking of trying the Arkray Vital if I order from ADW.

Have you tested the same drop of blood on both meters to see how the numbers compare? I, personally, wouldn't want to bring another variable into Pumbaa's already erratic and bouncy numbers. That +/- 20% per meter per reading already floors me.

That's a great price on the Arkray Vital test strips. $0.18 per strip is a half the cost of the Relion test strips.

Yes I've checked that, and they have always been within 5 or 10 points either way. So the same for my purposes. When he is surfing totally flat which he seems to do sometimes, I've seen the two meters throw the exact same number hours apart. Both meters have logged his frequent "185" as well.

I believe the Contour meter is supposed to be the most accurate, with the relion a close second.

But no you might not want to do that with many other meters. And of course that will require testing to see if the Vital measures up to the tried and *true* confirm/micro.

I did not just use the word *true* when speaking of a test meter? :roll:

Actually I no longer use the relion meter much, less than 5% of the time. I only have 12 relion/arkray strips left so I'm saving them for a time when I really can't get blood.

And I guess the antijinx didn't work for Chip, because there is the expected nearly black bounce. :oops:

I'm still just thrilled the Detemir is finally kicking in, because (antijinx again) we won't be going back to LaLaLantus now or ever. ;-)

:( I was so wishing that Chip would stop bouncing like that on the Levemir. But, I'll be optimistic and consider that he's still getting used to it, and will settle down and stop those bounces. (My same wishes for Pumbaa.)

So far I'm happy with the Relion meter. But @ $0.18 a test strip...gotta be practical with the other expenses that FD causes you to incur. Especially since I try to test so much, and figure I go through about 50 test strips a week. The Arkray Vitals would save me $0.10 a strip over the ones I purchase now, which = $5.00 a week, which = $260 a year. So the savings alone would pay for 10 pens of insulin if I ordered them from Canada. That $260 would buy 520 cans of Friskies Pate (my boys eat 2-1/2 cans a day, on average, so it would pay for 208 days of canned food).

After being nearly flat pink for a week the bounce is no surprise. The way the Levemir will help bounce is holding him flatter at lower levels until his body gets used to it. Levemir has less of those mysterious and erratic swings than Lantus, that's clear after just a week. As soon as you use up the Lantus, if Pumbaa isn't OTJ at that point then there is no reason not to switch, like almost everyone else.

Someone needs to order the Arkray Vital kit for $11 since it supposedly includes meter and some test strips. But there again, $100 order for the free shipping. And you just restocked. But if it is as good as it sounds, it would save a ton of money.

I'm spending $100 a month on FF just for Chip. And about that on my 18 yo since she eats a case of Merricks and 50 jars of meat baby food a month, for my homebrew ckd/ibd diet. But it's well worth it. The vet said she had only weeks to live more than a year ago, and I've nursed her back to a quality of life, all on my own. With diet and SubQ. And she thanks me for it each and everyday. BTW I tried making my own baby food, boiling chicken, etc. but I just couldn't keep up with it.

That bounce didn't last long, back to yellow in 5 hours.

This is the 6th cycle on this dose... green is always possible? nailbite_smile
